New Amp Day. I’ve had my eyes on this since July. There’s a antique-type shop not too far away that has quite a bit of gear. Nothing too crazy, but the occasional gem (‘67 Mosrite Ventures model, 70’s Bassman heads, in 75 and 100w, just to make a few). I never knew this existed until I saw it: an Acoustic 134, from 1972 (maybe). I think they were going for a Super Reverb vibe. It’s a 4x10, with normal and tremolo/reverb channels, both with two inputs and a bright switch. I picked it up today for $300. It came with the original amp cover (70’s pleather, the best kind).
It sounds pretty good. It’s solid state, but it has some serious volume, which I feel makes up a bit for the ‘deadness’ inherent in old SS amps. Acoustic was the best of the best in the SS department. The reverb is ok, but it’s no Fender reverb. The tremolo is excellent. It’ll be fun. I only got it because it’s so different that the base-line tones I am used to (Fender/Marshall). It’s incredibly heavy, as well…almost as heavy as a Super Reverb, and just as awkward to carry. My music room is on the second floor…this amp will never leave the house.
