Patch cables: whatcha using?

Let's see your patch cable situation. What are you using and is your board clean or messy? Maybe share some wisdom, do's and don'ts, proselytize an obviously wrong opinion, or drop a hot take. Also let's see whose shit is just in a pile on the floor, or ready for the white glove test. Who's got the most nausea-inducing carpet? Go!

I do solder mine to length, no big deal. Right angle jacks.

I have a combination of George Ls, which I like (but don't have enough of), and Monoprice, which were cheap and bulky, but get the job done.

The monoprice ones used to be $2 a-piece, but these days they're charging $7 for them. At $2 they were worth it but I think you can do better for $7.

I also have Donner patch cables that I couldn't resist buying when there was a coupon code that gave 6 for $1. I didn't need them and I don't use them, but I have them in case I ever need more.

Mine was pretty clean but it's a little torn up at the moment. Not a big vertex/rig doctor/Mason fan but I agree with his advice on cabling. I use the squareplug/mogami combo, I even put an sp550-s on my moog expression. I also tidy up with zipties and 3m ziptie holder things they reference.

A friend of mine was telling me he likes these ones and they're cheaper. Cannot comment myself other than that I prefer the look of the sqplg. Can a patch cable be sexy?

These are alright but surprisingly larger than squareplugs, despite these being pretty dang small. Squareplugs are prettier too
Yep, that's what I found too. Just recently received a few sets of Square Plug SPS5's and SP550 from West Coast Pedal Board. Quite a change from the use of solderless patch cables but I know it'll be well worth it. Figure I'll slowly work them in as time goes by.

View attachment 18657These are the ones I use. Reasonably priced, pretty rugged and are super compact and save loads of space. They have also been reliable as well for me so far.
I use a mix of EBS and the Ernie Ball flat ribbon patch cables. Both are great, have small real estate and are sturdy. Changed my setup quite a few time in the last couple of years and never had any problem with both those brands.

I have lots of different ones from various sources, including a pack of these from ALDI. Except I think I got a yellow one instead of the blue one. They work well anyway, and they were cheap. Been in use a couple of years now with no issues.

Glad you started this thread, I have been in bad need of upgrading my random collection of patch cords.. especially since my pedal collection has out grown the few cords I have, (I was a minimalist for a long time and still am to some extent... but I digress.) here’s my question for those that make your own. Is it cost effective or just because you can?

For me...a mix of amphenol/redco, neutrik/mogami, George L's, and Amazon special soderless cables.

The solderless stuff is great for putting stuff together, eventually I'm gonna do everything with soldered cables once I get my chosen setup a little more figured out....

Honestly, I couldn't say I'm convinced one way or another if it really matters all that much. Certainly not enough to justify paying big bucks for the super high end stuff.

Whatever is durable and shielded well works for me.

I bought a set of cheap patch cables from Amazon (Hosa maybe?) and they seem to be doing the job fine. I also have some of those Z shape hard connectors which I sometimes use if I put a couple Boss pedals on.

The best kept secret is World's Best Cable, a seller on Amazon. As much as I hate supporting that website, they sell authentic Mogami cables at discount prices since they are assembled by the seller and not Mogami itself.

I've bought a ton of them from WBC, both instrument and patch cables. The only downside is that they use pancake plugs that do not fit side-by-side in many stereo in/out pedals, such as Boss.

RLC circuit. As long as the cable doesn't throw any of those values out of whack into the next pedal..(y)

I know this is not true outside of the US, but Aldi is a discount grocery store here so this is very funny
Oh, that's mostly what they are here too, they just also have weekly sales of random other goods, including music gear about once a year. And you can get some decent stuff cheaply, such as my patch leads. And their regular stock is actually pretty good too, I find. Some of it, like their chocolate, is excellent.
