Testing my new test box

So I just built my first test box, but since I’ve been having problems with the effect that I’ve been working on, I’m not entirely sure how to gauge if 1) I’m connecting it to the effect properly and 2) if the test box I made is working. 🤦🏻‍♂️

1) I tried connecting the test box to the effect two different ways (A and B in the photos). Both ways give me a light on the test box, and clean sound only when the pedal is bi-passed. That result also matches what was happening when I had the wiring setup directly on the effect.

Is either setup connection A or B setup correct? I’m a little confused because my Abyss effect has 6 connection points (+, -, in, ground, sw, out) but my test box has 4 (in, ground, LED? and out)

2) Any thoughts on how to test if the test box is working? Someone suggested connecting the red and black gator clips together, which gives me signal in both bypass and engaged modes.

Thanks

Without power or a circuit connected, try clipping your in and out together, where you should get signal switched on and in bypass, and then disconnect your in and out leads and you should get signal only in one switch position

Thanks. Just to confirm. When you say without power, do you mean don’t connect power to the pedal? And by no circuit you mean don’t connect the effect PCB?

To test if the test box works, don't connect a circuit at all and don't connect power to the test box. I didn't check you wiring really

Ha. Any idea if the green ground clips should connect to the - on top of the PCB or the ground on the bottom of the PCB?
You should find that the - on the top and GND are in fact connected. Either should work. The GND connection on the bottom is to allow GND to be available to the footswitch
