Thanks! I used MOD Electronics tolex glue which I got from Amplified parts. It was easy to use and didn't have any smell but definitely did not clean up with water. Lighter fluid did take it off without harming the tolex in my case.

Following up on this. I replaced the JFET and it biases easily now. Doesn't sound much different. I think my room is just really electrically noisy and its a high gain pedal.

The Aion has a 15k in series with each 50k trimmer, so the range of adjustment is more limited.

Hmm. Did you add an on/off LED as well? I believe that can cause popping. You can use some resistors and a capacitor to fix it: https://www.muzique.com/lab/led.htm
