SOT-23 test sockets and measuring JFETs

In the (more) budget world of testing (perhaps) the FNRIRSi LCR-P1 comes with an SMD adapter that can also be plugged in to a breadboard, if you don't trust the LCR-P1's results for jfets.

Should I expect to pay Tariffs on Tayda Orders?

I am waiting on an order I placed a week ago. The shipping and handling costs jumped up to $38, but I also ordered more enclosures so I expect the weight was higher. Doing the math after reading above, I think that the services (drill and print) may not have been included in the value of my...

Rat Circuit Behavior - Output Stage Biasing

I am setting up to build my next iteration of my Rat clone (Terrier Review) and decided to breadboard the basic Rat circuit from ElectroSmash, so I could evaluate alternatives to the LM308 OpAmp and the filter behavior. I was working from the ElectroSmash ProCo Rat analysis, but with my own...

    Legit LM308n ?

As a slight aside: I was breadboarding up my own version of the Rat circuit (what happens when the board is out of stock, @Robert ) and actively exploring alternatives to the LM308 for my future Rat builds. With only minor tuning I can't hear or see (ADC into Max/MSP and FFT) the difference...

    Legit LM308n ?

I finished a rat clone in July (Build Report) using an LM308N DIP purchased from Jameco (Link). I never really thought about whether this was real or not, so I went and pulled the chip. Using the test posted by @Chuck D. Bones, I found the supply current for my chip is 740-750 µA, which looks...

    Twin Face PNP problem

Like others noted that this is normal. It takes a while for the Ge transistors to warm up, and they will change as the temperature changes. Generally speaking, though, it looks like you were dropping into the right bias voltage area. Were you able to trim it to the midpoint of your power supply...

    JST-XH Crimper & Terminals

I bought the PEBA crimper at Amazon and this set of cheapie JST-XH connectors, and they have worked fine for me. I have since bought some additional sizes of "real" JST-XH pins and headers from Mouser.

    Circulator (Grand Orbiter)

Can you see of you have a solid connection from your footswitch to the PCB conectors. This may be perfectly fine, but I do put more solder on my footswitch daughterboard so that the switches are solidly encased in solder.

    Twin Face PNP problem

Howdy! I have been breadboarding this circuit in preparation for committing to the PCB and had a similar problem. What I have learned is that, for lower gain Germanium transistors, it's necessary to adjust R4 (100k in the build guide) to get the voltage down to lower levels. A significantly...

BYOC Triboost is on the fritz.

You probably have a continuity tester - a setting on the DMM that beeps when you short the leads. Check that the footswitch contacts are closing properly in each setting. So for the 3PDT footswitch, you should find operating the switch alternates connections between: 1-2,4-5, 7-8 and 2-3, 5-6...

Sunflower Fuzz - Low, Gated Output, bias trim not working

FWIW I have this circuit on my breadboard, and with Russan MP21E. What I have found is that R1 (in the Sunflower Fuzz build docs, R4 in a standard Fuzz Face circuit) has a much bigger impact upon trimming the Q2 C bias than the bias trim pots above R3. I put a 100K trimpot at R1 and trimmed...

Fuzz Face - Does transistor selection really matter?

That explains why the sound on these little UFOs is out of this world. :p
