I tend to use the green ones, for no other reason than they're cheap and I usually have a ton of them on hand.

They should test in the neighborhood of 350mV.

I have no problems with the Tayda electrolytics, and where footprint allows, I often prefer to use their dipped green mylar caps. I don't buy Wima caps because my dirt boxes don't need automotive qualifications.

Re-flow these guys and see if that does anything.

I can't find any datasheets for a silicon 1n34a or anything claiming to be a direct replacement. The most recent one is from 2009 for a ge 1n34a. https://www.mouser.com/datasheet/2/258/mcc_1n34ado-7-1179789.pdf

This is mainly what I was referring to, customers are not getting a comparable germanium diode when they order the killer deal on 10 1N34A's from Shenzhen. They're getting intentionally mislabeled BAT4x, sticking them in their horse pedals, and lo and behold: they make the mythical sound.

You're very likely to be burned on anything claiming to be 1N34A due to the mythical hype. However, Soviet germanium is still plentiful. SOVCOM / alexer1 is a known good Ebay seller based in Ukraine.

Definitely replace that, but that capacitor isn't in the signal path and I don't know if it would cause the problem you're having. It is necessary for the charge pump to work correctly.

You have a bunch of loose strands here. If these make connections with a neighboring pad or another loose strand, you could get signal or DC flowing somewhere in the circuit it's not supposed to be. If you have a desoldering pump, I'd remove all of those wires and then use the pump to open the...

According to circuit analyses from people smarter than me, a tiny bit of dry signal bypasses the volume pot, but not really enough to be noticeable. Can you take a picture for us? My first thought is to check the values of R28 & 29.
