Genuine spring reverb build recommendations?

Where did you get the KE10720 LDR?
I didn't even check yet, but the original creator mentioned they got all the parts from Tayda - they seem to be out of stock now, but I think I have some from a previous order, and https://www.taydaelectronics.com/photo-conductive-cell-resistor-ldr-540nm-radial.html is probably also suitable. I might put in sockets and try the vactrols I got from Aliexpress a while back (used for General Tso for example).

I don't even have the PCB's yet, no word on drill template from the creator, so I'll probably have to measure it myself so it will still take weeks until I can get it built.

I did receive the spring tank already though.

Thanks! Looks like this tiny pedal DIY store in nearby city has something similar (8-20k range) among the handful of LDRs they're selling. Maybe a smart move to get a few for whatever might tickle my inspiration in the future.

@Visceri @Fama Where did you get the KE10720 LDR, or did you figure an alternative?

I had to go down the rabbit hole to replace that part but I THINK I can use a GL5516 from the pedalpcb store in series with a resistor (5-7k ish) to get to the right “light” resistance. I haven’t received my pcb either, and this photo-resistor is the only problem part for my large queue of builds I have going pretty soon

I’d like to use an optocoupler but I’m not proficient enough to redesign the network around the photo resistor

FWIW I suspect it's not quite that important to get exactly right anyway since it controls the compression, but you still control the amount of compression with the pot. So as long as it's somewhere in the ballpark, whether you have to turn the compression pot more or less doesn't really matter that much IMO.

Of course if it's grossly wrong then you might be limited to a small part of the pot's action or something like that, but I think there is probably quite a bit of leeway.

(and FWIW I don't feel like the ducking is super important for guitar, I would probably just use it quite subtly 99% of the time)

Probably the most important question is how much space do you have?

Because if you have room for it, and you’re ok with some welding, you can build a real plate reverb.

I know it’s already dropped into the mental cauldron where all my half-baked ideas live.

Thanks for the insight! I feel more comfortable with the Optocoupler I had chosen now.

The main reason I was looking for ducking was for the placement shown in this short:

I used to own a Light Pedal and I used it very much like the above demo, albeit before distortion pedals instead of an amp. Boxed up with a VFE Old School from Madbean and I’ll have all the functionality I’ll need.

Or better yet…

Would love to build a plate though.

You don't need that much space tbh

But tbh spring reverb sounds nicer to me for guitar, personally. That plate would be cool too, though. I wonder if you could put an extra table on top of it and use it as a table too so the space isn't wasted? Maybe that would kill part of the reverb though.

I think we all love plate reverb, but not on the instruments we tend to play here. :)

If my brain wasn't so stubborn, I'd figure out how to use singing bowls as reverb.
