Stereo AB Troubleshooting

Hi there

I can’t get the led to light up when 9v is applied. It will light up dimly when test continuity with any of the dc jack lugs and the center pin of led or any of the center lugs of the 3pdt switch and the center led pin. None of the audio jacks are wired yet.

I can successfully test I have power on my power adapter but I don’t get any voltage readings on the lug side of the dc Jack when I insert the power supply.

I changed the red and black wires around on the dc jack. I also removed the connection between 4 and 6 of the switch. Now I can get a red light but no green when I press the switch.

In one position, you're shorting your positive to your negative DC voltage input. In the other position, you're sending positive to one side of your LED.

Is your dual LED a dual anode single cathode or dual cathode single anode?

If it's dual anode and the cathode is the center pin of the LED pins, just desolder the resistor leg off of the switch and wire it to the DC jack's negative terminal instead. In your case, you'd probably just wire the grounds from all the lugs to the same ground, also connected to the DC jack, not the switch. Disconnect that negative lead from the switch, at least from that position. You cannot have the negative lead from the DC jack on the same switch bank as the positive lead.

A picture of your LED may help someone that's very familiar with dual color LEDs, but it doesn't do anything for me. Do you have a part number or a link to where you bought it?

Going off of the assumption that it's *probably* a shared cathode, cathode being the middle lug, try hooking it up as I described in post #6.

Got it. For others benefit, I did up a small wiring diagram. This was using a 3pin bi-color LED with a center cathode and two anodes surrounding it.

Btw, the LED in the below diagram looks odd because it isn’t in the library of DIYLC. I had to improvise.

Thank you for your patience and help. Now that the switch works with the led, I can wire up the audio jacks. 🙂
