Madbean Harbinger 1.5 9v or 18v?

Anyone have a preference or recommendation? Build for 18v or 9v? Any noticeable difference? Thanks!

9v with charge pump or 18v without produces comparable results. It's really what is the more conventional usage for you. If your power supply has a spare 18v tap then go with that.

Thanks. I do have 18v taps available. Is it just a matter of less components or marginally better sound? I'd prefer the best sound but everything else being equal I'd take the convenience of 9v.

While I have you... will the build docs for the previous revisions be available in the archive at some point. Specifically I'm looking for the Oracle. There is an additional resistor on the older board and I'd like to get the drill template. (It looks like the template is probably the same but wanted to confirm.) Thanks again!!!

The overall tone is exactly the same. Having built both versions, the only difference is that the 9v charge pump version seemed to have a more narrow range in tweaking the trimmers for the LFO. IOW, it took me a couple extra minutes to dial it in.

You can email me or PM me yours and I'll get you the doc. I will update all the archive links soon. The extra resistor is probably the CLR for the LED.

Thanks. I PM'd you on the MBP forum.

One last question, if I populate all the parts, including the 9v parts, will that effect running the pedal in 18v so long as I have the 18v parts and the correct power connection? My thought is to have everything populated in case I want to switch to from 18 to 9 or vice versa.

Thanks again!

You'll want to commit to building one version or the other. It's not designed to switch between two power options on the fly. You would want to remove D3 to change it from a 9v to 18v operation. Plus, you would need two DC jacks since they connect at different parts of the circuit. It's just asking for trouble.

Pshhh what could possibly go wrong, you can only blow it up once.
