I was actually trying to go for an antiquated nautical/gothic sort of vibe… if that makes sense… I actually found someone in German that makes rack front plates after the fact, but let’s make sure this thing is going to work before I dump more money into it.. but my biggest fear is it will be noisy as hell.

You’re doing awesome!

I think you might be okay with noise. I did a really terrible job in a rack mount Marshall 3 channel I slapped together with a hot rodded JCM channel. I used Sushi’s power supply SMPS. I don’t have much trouble, minus some light him, but that could be the not great grounding and wiring in my house.

In sum, if I can half ass it and make it work, your work looks better with you whole assing it to prevent noise!

I feel you on the house wiring thing, I live in an old rural town and I can see 5 transformers from my house.

Sooo much wiring…. It’s getting a little messy in there but can’t be helped….and still a ways to go. Trying to keep all the shielding grounds localized as much as possible, the 9mm pot grounded standoff holes definitely came in to play on that.

Pin 1 on both gain pots goes to ground, so using shielded wiring for that is excessive Everything looks great though, excited to see it come together!

Yeah….I realized that after I did it… I guess it will stay…. shielded grounds for more mojo.

I don't know how I missed this thread, great idea and execution. I'm a little worried about the tubes mounted horizontally next to the pot and switch wiring, but it's probably fine and not worth it to mess with different pin headers to get them standing upright. Now I want to build one in a slim cab to stack on top of my amp. I really don't need more gear. So thank you and damn you for sharing the build.

Thanks man! If this is successful and I end up liking the rack format (I only play at home into a computer with headphones.) I have a couple more ideas for projects. I’m not too worried about the vertical spacing on tube and heat. There is a little more space in there than it looks

And the wire is ether 600v silicon insulated ( should be good to to at least 300f and the the M27500 is actually fire resistant by aerospace standards so the 30mm nylon standoffs will melt before any of that wire does. And those are far enough away from the tubes. The sketch part of this project really is my ability to over complicate everything so now there are at least a dozen new ways to F this up.

Keeping them in the current position has better isolation from the power supply anyway, probably the best spot without a major layout change, don't mind me, keep up the good work.

It’s ALIVE!

Puts some Mullard and Tung Sol’s I had in there. Did a function check mostly, these is some hiss but I think it’s very reasonable, nothing a gate couldn’t easily fix, the clean channel sounds way better than I thought it would, I can’t wait to really give this thing a test drive!

That's pretty well aligned with my thoughts on it. It has the typical high-gain noise you would expect from something like this, and the clean channel really is a gem.

You knocked this one out of the park, looks great!

Thanks man. This was to be one of if not the toughest project I have done. Thank you for that! I love a good challenge. I haven’t really played it yet, but just messing with it for a few minutes, the tone stacks don’t operate in the expected fashion (but exactly how some describe Bongner tone stacks) it really isn’t your run of the mill sort of amp profiles clean or the OD channel.

Well for right now this is the extent of my Rack set up, I built it this way because I was thinking I might prefer the format over pedals, pedals usually sit on the desk and I really don’t switch tones on the fly. Don’t play live so I don’t have a need for stomp switches or even a power amp section at this point. So this is my point of entry and I think I have a few more I will have to do now.

Nice! I’ve been wondering if there’s a good way to put my pedal board, amp sim, interface, etc into some kind of modular system so it’s easy to plug in as a single cohesive unit. My “recording space” is also my daily office space so it’d be great to have an easy way to keep those functions separate. Maybe you’re onto something with the rack approach

It’s not hijacking that’s exactly half of what this wip was about an alternative format.. plenty of pros have pedal shelves in there rack case. And use ether a looper or midi Maybe you could do something like that.
