My guess is that with a faceplate you drill the enclosure hole for a led a hair bigger?

Probably. But it is important to avoid hairy faceplates, if only for hygiene.

The hole in the faceplate is sized for one these. I drill the enclosure for the lens since they're press-fit.

Tayda says 4mm, I've always used an 11/64" bit. It's been a few years though, so might be worth double checking on a scrap enclosure if you have one.
