    Low Gain Silicon Transistors

dank 🤙 ive got x10 of these already from a previous order, but thought I might grab some more, or something else to try while im doing an order a land where a dollar isn't worth much oh hell yeah, these are a great price! will give them a go.

    Low Gain Silicon Transistors

    alright, im on mouser, considering ordering some modern low gain silicons: (im working with dollarydoos here): 2N3903: x1 - $1.11 , x10 - $0.683 2N2369: x1 - $4.88 , x10 - $3.38 2N3700: x1 - $4.08 , x10 - $3.38 2N3705: x1 - $1.82 , x10 - $1.22 2N2221: x1 - $13.38, x10 - $13.37 lol...

    Fuzzy Fox build report

im not so sure that the gain of any particular transistors really need to be matching in this circuit, it appears to be more about those diodes and components around them

    Fuzzy Fox build report

for best octave, D1 and D4 need to be matching. and preferably close to 0.33v forward voltage. https://forum.pedalpcb.com/threads/foxx-tone-machine-pedalpcb-d9b-ok.21947/post-277871 and if you really wanna be pedantic, measuring and matching R5+R4, R11+R10, and C3+C4 can help too.

Help me find an equivalent power transistor?

this one that you linked appears to put out 1.5W https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Toshiba/TTA008BQ?qs=B6kkDfuK7%2FAb0K%252Be3vU9lw%3D%3D the 2SB891 referenced above appears to handle up to 5W. you'd probably wanna sub with something that will match or exceed that power dissipation rating.

DEMO AionFX Xenotron (Lovetone ? Flange with No Name)

can’t remember exactly how it went, but im gonna assume this is probably where ive fucked it up. (comments revised) good call. fixed. yeah that’s better, more clearance from the lid lip ✌️

DEMO AionFX Xenotron (Lovetone ? Flange with No Name)

yep it's very tight on this one. I wasn't willing to let an 'incorrect' jack screw me over, so I pretty much followed the BOM exactly as specified and ordered all the jacks and other odd specific bits from mouser.

DEMO AionFX Xenotron (Lovetone ? Flange with No Name)

ayy thanks 🤘🏻 the stereo demo is recorded in mono (iphone), so it’s kinda redundant, but at least the tremolo is there sounds nifty! i wonder if this stuff can be seen on waybackmachine… certainly feels good to be able to put something together that is essentially unobtainable. aww shit...

pretty much, yep. unless one day i decide to start doing some noisecore weird shit with loopers and whatever else on a collapsing card table hahaha cheers 🤙🏻

DEMO AionFX Xenotron (Lovetone ? Flange with No Name)

admittedly, i really didn’t need to build this. not sure why i got sucked into dropping it in the cart. maybe it was the sight of the troubleshooting threads and thinking, surely it can’t be that much of a big deal. or maybe it was the build documentation that really sells this as a whopper...

    Vacuum-dehydrating hygroscopic components...

well, to be fair, it does have a leg up over the multimeter for measuring pF values, and a lot of scenarios where using leads isn’t convenient.

breadboarding (tone bender MkII, MkI, fuzz face, big muff)

alright here's the MkII layout the GT404Bs - at 11x18 mm, are not small, so arranged the layout assuming clearances for them to lie down on the board.

    Vacuum-dehydrating hygroscopic components...

that’s pretty much all i’ll be able to with it. but at least it does silicon BJTs alright. i wouldn’t be recommending them to people though.

    Vacuum-dehydrating hygroscopic components...

mine won’t even recognize germanium transistors as BJTs. just comes up with diodes. fucken waste of $20

breadboarding (tone bender MkII, MkI, fuzz face, big muff)

if you want big low end - you want the fuzz face/1.5 - it will handle and retain it. MkII does cut some lows. my experience with MkI is that it just lays down on the train tracks begging for the sweet mercy of death at the sight of any low end content. if you've ever seen that description...
