What's a buffer, how do they work and why would we want one?

Just so I understand correctly, if I have a buffer before a FF (say a buffered bypass tuner) I counter the effect of the buffer by putting a small resistor in series before the input of the FF?

    Basstortr

This forum is weird when posting pics directly from your phone (assuming that’s what you’re doing). You’ll need to edit the pics, rotate them in any direction, save it, re-edit and rotate them back to the original orientation, and save again. Pics should post just fine after that

    "STORM" Closed Circuit Booster Limiter

Dumb question, but what does this circuit do?

Breadboarded a circuit that I like: two-knob germanium Electra

You may be right. I don’t have enough experience with leakage and Germaniums to confirm. I tend to just use more modern components. Maybe that’s why all my fuzz faces suck

Breadboarded a circuit that I like: two-knob germanium Electra

Base needs some dc voltage to turn the transistor on and open the channel between collector and emitter. Take a look at a lpb-1 or muff stage to see what I mean.

Breadboarded a circuit that I like: two-knob germanium Electra

You’ll have a tough time squeezing 2 diode leads in one hole. Might want to rethink your layout. Also curious how it works without biasing the base pin.

Which transistor type provide the highest gain: BJT, JFET or MOSFET?

What is the definition of “gain” here? For example, in a distortion circuit gain in reality is compression in conjunction with signal clipping.

    Dream Fuzz - more gain?

Increase R7 or R4. Or change the diodes with lower Vf

I haven’t heard anyone talking about homestarrunner in years! Nice build.

    SLO

Thanks, guys. I'm always on the lookout for some good chugs. The Black Eye may be my next project (after my lead solder OD of course).

    SLO

I'm starting to check out the Soldano SLO tone and I think it's pretty killer. From what I've heard/read its pretty much the grandfather of all the high gain amps out there today. I would love to get my hands on one, but I really don't have the space for another "amp on tap" ready to plug in and...

G4 is one of my favorite gain machines and one of my first builds.

    Tayda packing and shipping

Depends what you ordered. UV printing or enclosure colors/drilling takes extra time. If it’s straight parts then only a day or two depending on the day of the week you order.

    Caesar Chorus Tone Pot?

If it were up to my i'd start right before the BLEND pot with the wet signal and try to squeeze a LP filter in there. R25 seems like a good place to start for me. Just my 2 cents, but I'm no modulation expert.

    Problem with guvernator trace

Can we see the other side of the board?

hey, everybody, I'm a stupid moron with an ugly face and a big butt, and my butt smells, and I like to kiss my own butt

I'll say a few things. First, get to a store and actually try out the amps themselves. Youtube videos have their place to get a flavor of the sound, but you don't know what kind of other gear they are using (mics, guitar, etc) or how it will sound with your setup. I've got a 5150 LBX and am...

High headroom Preamp Pedal Schematic Design Help

Once you get a breadboard you'll need to approach this project in stages. First you'll need to learn how to breadboard and transfer schematic to breadboard. You'll need to understand the concept so I recommend going through a few of these first. You need to walk before you can run otherwise...
