    Q-Tune Build

Got back from vacation Monday and found the Q-Tune box sitting on my doorstep, finally got around to putting it together tonight. I used machined sockets instead of the included leaf-style ones as I've had bad experiences with those, and I also decided not to socket the relays as I figure...

SOLVED Lab Rat Gated on LED Setting

If it sounds fine on the Si setting and the problem is only on the LED setting, I would look at the LED themselves, make sure they are oriented correctly, and also take a look at the switch and make sure you have good connection where it's supposed to be and no connection where it's not supposed...

    Hand-Drilling Nobelium

I mean I've never hand drilled a Nobelium enclosure, but I could probably throw something together (because I'm pretty sure I was already asked to do it like a year ago).

Boutique Pedal Manufacturers Are Feeling the Tariff Pinch

I have mixed feelings on this one. I enjoy building pedals, it started as and always has been an escape for me, but I also have a wife and three kids, and time spent building pedals is time that isn't focused on them, so I need to be compensated for that. I still have a day job that pays the...

Q-Tune DIY Kit now available for pre-order

I will continue to selfishly say no worries as I won't be home for another 12 days, but glad to hear it's moving along.

Q-Tune DIY Kit now available for pre-order

We've all been there  boards look great, stoked to get it together and try it out (in a few weeks after my vacation is over)

    Question About Selling

That's a slippery slope. Standardizing things helps save time and parts costs, modification and customization will eat up your time. When I first started building seriously I only had one model, but I offered it in a bunch of different finishes, so even though the PCB was the same I was putting...

    Question About Selling

This is the way. My builds are the same if not better quality than they were when I started selling, but I can build them way faster now. Once you're famous you can get away with spending a week on every pedal and charging accordingly, but as has been said before, until you have a reputation...

    Question About Selling

Huge +1 to this. Even if you have the coolest FV-1 algorithms out there, if you don't have some reason to stick out among all the other boutique FV-1 based pedals then you're going to have a hard time "breaking into the market." And if you find a way to get into the market, if you don't have...

Thoughts on Friedman Fuzz Fiend Tube Fuzz?

Absolutely, I'll dig through my old documents in a bit and post what I've got.

    Pickup winders? Raise your hands

Exactly this. I think it's interesting and could be fun to get into, but I barely sleep as it is, I think another hobby would likely kill me.

    Jlcpcb and tariffs

That's literally the main thing their pricing is dependent on. They charge by the square inch.

    STM32

I was unaware of this, this changes some things. I have a couple STM32 dev boards I was doing stupid stuff on, this could make them a lot more useful for my caveman brain.

    STM32

I've done a little bit of playing with STM32, but not much. They're not terrible to flash, but you have to be set up for it, including an ST-LINK or similar device. I use ATTiny for my switching, JLC has a pretty good stock of them. ATTiny can also be flashed by Arduino which is a lot more...

    Power Supplies

Your context doesn't include what pedals are in the chain and their combined current draw. If you have multiple high-current pedals in the chain and the supply doesn't have enough to cover them, you'll be getting noise. If I had a dollar for every "my 250mA supply is usually so quiet but I'm...

    Back In Stock Updates

I'm not much of a camping dude, but the good news is we'll be in a country where the kids don't speak the language, so it will be harder for them to do any shopping without mom or dad translating.

    Back In Stock Updates

Just a quick heads up for everyone, I'm going to be on vacation June 25 through July 21, and while some PCBs are running a little low, I will not be restocking until I get home, so if something runs out before I leave, it's just going to be out for a bit. Also, in case it wasn't clear, I will...

Q-Tune DIY Kit now available for pre-order

I picked one up, I'll certainly post my thoughts when I get it together (though I expect others will beat my to it as I'll be out of town late June through mid-July).

Steddi, Go! - simple tube D.I.

Ah geeze, thanks for letting me know. That was an accidental carry-over from my template and is not part of the build.

Tubes 101 - Intro to Tube Preamp Design

Yup, these guys nailed it^ Obviously there is no reason you can't use high voltage caps in those spots if you have them around and have room for them, but you're not dropping the whole B+ across the plate resistors, so it's not necessary.
