Now that's a guy that will never stop to ask what a trimmer does....

    New project stuff maybe?

Certainly seems like checking out the board is a good idea since the oscillations were not the only issue given the low signal levels you mentioned. Crossing my fingers those two things might be related.

Why don't PedalPCB build docs tell you what trimmers are for?

I think you are doing a good job presenting your points without being critical. I think it comes down to an implication that the site operator should want to allocate more thought and time into providing more useful information in the build documents, while others understand that the site...

Why don't PedalPCB build docs tell you what trimmers are for?

I don't know that this site ever intended to be a starting point for new builders and your comments would be on point if that were one of the goals here. But if that is not a goal, then suggestions about useful things to add to the build documents probably don't get a higher priority than...

This Week on the Breadboard: The Tube Bender Deluxe

thanks for sharing the sound samples. I think letting the notes ring for a bit was a great way to compare the sustain and decay.

    New project stuff maybe?

Is there any difference running these preamp tube builds at 250v compared to 300v? or 350v? more headroom?

    Lab Rat build!

No issues with the audio working properly. I went through my IC inventory and settled for now on using an OP07 just because it was the quietest one in the bunch. I think my LM308 (not metal can) was the runner up. I may try a couple of the "standard" mods to take C5 and R8 out out of the...

    Lab Rat build!

I have the power section of the Lab Rat running and will get things back in the enclosure before checking the audio. Replacing the UF4007 solved the problem. Of course I only got there after replacing several other parts that did not fix the problem. The diode I took out looked OK on the...

    Lab Rat build!

It is a 9v supply I use when testing builds. It powers all of my other sushibox pedals without issue. I was curious though and checked with a different power supply and had the same result. Another thing to note is that the mosfet gets hot when the led starts flashing. The two diodes are...

    Lab Rat build!

I have the Lab Rat board assembled but not working. I am slowly troubleshooting it. The board appears to power up for about 6 seconds but passes no audio, and the the LED by the tube socket starts flashing about once a second. Parts look correct and properly oriented. I will post some pics...

Clandestine (Chase Tone Secret) noise increases when putting on back lid

change out the 10u caps first and see if you get any improvement in the noise. if needed, you can then sub in the 330 for the 220 to see if that helps. also don't forget to touch up the connections on the film caps. you can use your meter to make sure the inner tabs are connected to the outer...

Clandestine (Chase Tone Secret) noise increases when putting on back lid

At this point I would swap out all of the electrolytics and touch up the solder on the other caps to see if it brings any improvement.

Clandestine (Chase Tone Secret) noise increases when putting on back lid

here is a remark from another forum about leaking capacitors that might explain why putting on the back would raise the noise level by trapping the noise that is being picked up in the circuit: Maybe one or more of your caps is picking up noise from your charge pump. Not sure why raising the...

Clandestine (Chase Tone Secret) noise increases when putting on back lid

Almost like putting the back on is trapping noise inside the enclosure, which doesn't make any sense.

Clandestine (Chase Tone Secret) noise increases when putting on back lid

one thing to check -- lay the back of the enclosure across the case in a way that increases the noise and then remove your hand. does that change the noise? trying to see if your hand position is even a factor when it is touching the enclosure.
