That's actually what I was looking at. I found a schematic for the 6505+ that has 8 triodes in the preamp, that seems like a bit much. I can probably make 3 tubes work if I'm patient enough, but Supersonic showed me that 4 tubes is too many.

    51r....

That's just for the ground lift circuit. 1/8W should be fine, but honestly the value isn't super critical either, so any of those resistors would be fine.

Whoops, I misspoke. I get all those number-for-a-model-name amps mixed up. The one I was looking at was the Peavey 6505, not the 5150.

Yeah single channel in a pedal form is certainly more doable. But with the number of requests I've had for a new dual-channel project, I figure I'll need to find something. Looking at specific requests I think I've seen more requests for something 5150 flavored than anything.

    Jlcpcb and tariffs

My July 28 order just shipped yesterday. They are very backed up. I'm going to disagree there. If a political party I normally side with announced that the thing I enjoy doing is going to cost almost twice as much for no reason, I would have some pretty strong feelings about that. I don't vote...

A pedal-sized version of a multi-channel rackmount preamp would certainly be exciting. Eventually I'll have to just put things in rackmount boxes. I have probably had more requests for a multi-channel high-gain preamp than anything else at this point though. Something has to happen eventually.

    Jlcpcb and tariffs

My understanding is that the tariffs don't take effect until the end of the month, and it's pretty clear that enclosure orders aren't going to ship before before the end of the month. Everything else typically will, so you probably have a few days before it's over everything.

    PDF or Web-Based Build Instructions

Or in my case, putting the links up once and just praying they stay valid so I don't have to touch them again.

    Jlcpcb and tariffs

Yup, exactly this. Every year my accountant says to write off everything I can to make the business look less profitable. That will be less difficult in 2025.

    Jlcpcb and tariffs

Welp, looks like Tayda tariffs are happening now. Just placed an enclosure order and DHL is now the only shipping option and tariffs are included in shipping costs. Farewell cheap UPS enclosure shipping, it was great while it lasted.

    SLO

The SLO is my favorite dirt tone, so I can weigh in with my opinions. I bought the SLO pedal direct from Soldano the day they were released, because I'm a Soldano fan and figured I would give it a shot. I will say that I don't dislike it; as far as op-amp based amp emulations go it's pretty...

SOLVED Lab Rat Gated on LED Setting

The tube heater in Lab Rat comes straight off the supply voltage, so it will be your main rail on the cathode of your 1N5817. Should be just a little lower than your supply.

Nah, I basically shelved it when I got Wrecking Ball put together. I have my eye on another two-channel hi-gain preamp, but it probably won't be Bogner flavored.

hey, everybody, I'm a stupid moron with an ugly face and a big butt, and my butt smells, and I like to kiss my own butt

If you've never built a tube amp before, I personally would not recommend a high-gain amp as your first build. I've built a handful of amps and am pretty comfortable, but when I wanted an SLO I decided I didn't want to build one and would rather buy an assembled head from Ceriatone (theirs is...

Q-Tune build — Feral Feline vs The Universe

Yeah I didn't mention it in my build report, but the pads on this thing are small, definitely small enough to make a noticeable difference in soldering. I had to switch to a smaller tip in order to actually heat them enough, my usual chisel tip wasn't cutting it. It was especially noticeable on...

    Q-Tune DIY Tuner kit

I think intermediate is fair. It has a couple steps that are a little more involved than a typical PedalPCB build, but if you take your time and follow the instructions, it will work.

    Nobelium Gain-Control

I've considered adding a gain control and swapping V1 for a 12AT7 to get some dirt, but it would very much change the character of the preamp. Would be relatively straightforward to do though, assuming you have a spot on the enclosure to mount the additional pot.
