Interesting, do you know what it's based on?

    Is that a discrete VCA?

    Fretting about FETs

We're talking about two different circuits, a bit confusing I know. The old Russian one was mixing sk30s and 2N7000, where this modern one is using LND150 instead.

    Fretting about FETs

@thomasbe86 do you have any insights into the MOSFET aspects of these circuits? Some people in the forum were also talking about how they found the BS170 less harsh sounding than a 2N7000 in this circuit.

    3AX31C Germanium gain

The crazy thing to me is that enough people are buying these that it's worth manufacturing them in the first place? Is the casing from a well known package type?

    3AX31C Germanium gain

Did you ever do more testing on these? Do you think they are actually germanium?

Stupid question number 245: bipolar power

It's a voltage inverter whilst also being low dropout voltage. This one can only go to +/-5v though. I think one benefit of LDOs beyond the low voltage dropout is they are pretty quiet...

    Binder for PCB storage

I actually use a stamp collection binder to house my tested transistors.

    Diode Testing on Breadboard

You're right definitely looks like DC offset. What I can't figure out is why? The signal generator has no settings for dc offset, why would you set up a sine wave this way by default? For comparison a sine wave sent out of my interface via a tone generator plugin.

Stupid question number 245: bipolar power

I have seen LDO inverters, looking closer they are more in the 5v range though. Do you think the regulated outputs are worth it?

Stupid question number 245: bipolar power

Is the $5 price point for the unregulated version of the DC-DC converters? Is the regulated version worth the $10ish price increase? How does this compare to an LDO inverter?

    Diode Testing on Breadboard

Hey folks, I've been doing some testing with diodes using my breadboard, except I've run into an issue, no matter how I hook up the diodes, I'm always getting asymmetric clipping. It doesn't matter whether they are silicon, germanium etc. This is as measured with my oscilloscope using a 2.4v...

    General capacitor questions

The other thing with Electrolytics is that their capacitance performance can vary depending on where you are in their voltage rating range I think? I swear I read that somewhere, but now I don't remember where.

High headroom Preamp Pedal Schematic Design Help

You're unlikely to run into headroom issues with a guitar signal input and the output required going into a poweramp. Look at what the Revv G3 and the Firedman BEOD achieve on 9v. Something to think about with a clean channel is you still want some compression. Spikey transients aren't nice...

High headroom Preamp Pedal Schematic Design Help

Live spice doesn't like overly complicated circuits, you sometimes have to split things up. Ive found issues in the past with specific opamps if they're not powered with +/- supplies. Im still not sure what your ultimate goal is here. Why do you need high headroom.

    Lt1054 negative voltage grounds

Using this schematic from AionFX to build a negative voltage supply for my bread board. I notice they have separate ground for the negative voltage compared to the input filtering. Is this necessary or just to minimise switching noise?
