For anyone in the future I found my answer https://forum.pedalpcb.com/threads/uberfuzz-no-led.2691/ I mistakenly thought the long lead goes into the square hole (k-cathode) because of the electrolytic through holes. however, the long lead (anode) goes into the circular hole.

I’m actually kind of baffled. Everything works great but the leds don’t switch on. i used my multimeter and if i hold it against the solder joints they light up fine. anyone have any ideas?
