Thanks for you ideas on this Nostradoomus,
I’d not though of the Clapton mid boost as a possible design route. It will be interesting to mock it up and see how it works into the RAT. Without really thinking about it I looked at the PCB, saw three diodes in what could be a asymmetric soft...
Hi @Robert,
I noticed in another thread you seem to be exploring the idea of making a surface mount discrete op amp, and lets say hypothetically it is a LM308. Is the schematic in the specification document, complete? Only it says, “The inputs are shunted with back-to-back diodes for...
I had the opportunity to play my mate’s Rattler V2, and thought the boost was a very nice addition, once we’d taken it down from it’s default maximum. As far as I know it’s not been traced and I thought it might be a bit of fun to bread board a circuit that might give a close approximation of...
It is!
I wish I’d had my Series 3 Distortion at the time to do a comparison, but it’s very RAT sounding, I just couldn’t say if it was exactly a RAT or just a very nice but different flavour! The boost was nice once it was taken down from it’s default maximum! But I feel a TS in front of a RAT...
I picked up a JHS Series 3 Distortion as I was curious about the RAT only to discover I really like them!
I’ve got some OP07 op amps and I’m planning on breadboarding a basic RAT with symmetrical and asymmetrical clipping on a switch and combining it with the boost side of the Angry Andy Plus...
You're right, but I think that might have tipped me past my area allowance in Eagle, the free version is not overly generous! I’m trying to migrate over to KiCAD, so that should mean I can have as much space as I’d like, but I’m not finding the transition as easy as I though I would.
For this...
Wow, we’ve seen three different Golden Fleece boards, the thing is with is the most authentic sounding, through hole with metal film resistors, through hole with carbon comp resistors, or surface mount with the mystery extra capacitor? ;)
Just had a second look inside mine, and apologies regarding the threaded section of the pots, mine too have three locking washers, damn hard to see with the mirror. So I was probably taking you down a rabbit hole unnecessarily, I’d guess the difference in pots is just an inventory thing and they...
I used a mirror on a stick to look in through the F hole. My pots look like this on the back:
And I can see the base of the pot is almost against the underside of the top suggesting probably just a single locking washer.
I was just wondering with the pots and the black surrounds (which you’ve...
Hi Ctrl4Smilerz
I got the same guitar in November, and for me I’d have to say the clean up is pretty good. I know that doesn’t help you, but there are a few things about your guitar that give me pause for thought.
Your pots have long threads, needing several washers to pack them out. Mine are...
Just looked at the wiring diagram for the Piezo version:
https://support.prsguitars.com/hc/en-us/article_attachments/4420458056219/prs-se-hollowbody-piezo-wiring-diagram.pdf
It looks like 50's wiring to me, so unless it's different in the none piezo version, which would seem odd, I'm kind of...
Thanks, I went for 100pf too, and I'll try the 100r mod, I've seen that occasionally on other builds, but had no idea what it's purpose was, but if it's to reduce noise that's great, not that I find it to have a high noise floor as is.
It's my favourite fuzz so far.
Blimey that looks great!
I've built my own clone, but there was one component value that has remained a mystery to me, C6 on the schematic:

What value did you uses and what were your mods?
My main amp is a Yamaha THR10C, the connivence of good tone at low volumes or headphones along with the ability to mix in backing tracks or Truefire courses makes for a happy home life.
My pedals sound better through my valve amp, but not bad through the THR. I am however favouring ‘preamp’...
I’ve become a bit fixated on the idea of a tube OD/preamp pedal build, the ‘Son of Ben’ is my current OD of choice and having built and tweaked my own SE valve (sorry I’m British) amp, I’d like to tinker again!
What I’d like to find is a schematic or PCB for a universal power supply to do the...
