    Acrobat Parametric Distortion

You rock, thanks! Your mod is the thing that's gonna make this useable, and I appreciate that. +1 for making the DIY option better than the retail.

    Acrobat Parametric Distortion

Hey, thanks for explaining this! Am I understanding correctly that we just wire pin 3 and pin 2 to these two spots, hijacking the signal to the output. (And pin 1 to gnd.)

Hissing noise goes away when pad is touched

Is it a mic preamp? Or something to run a microphone into stompboxes? I'd be interested in such a circuit. I have no idea what's causing the hiss, but I wonder if you could solder a dangling resistor to that pad to make the hiss go away permanently. 🤔

CDXL Reissue Pots and drill template...

I find PCB mount pots are enough to hold it in place, even when there's only 2 pots. LED holes often do not line up with the drill templates and require some bending.

    Acrobat Parametric Distortion

Yeah, I think I'm gonna follow your lead and pre-emptively install a volume pot. If I follow this into something delicate like a TC Electronic Flashback, I imagine it won't have the headroom to tame it without distorting the front end. Thanks again for sharing your discovery.

    Acrobat Parametric Distortion

Thanks for the tip, man. I wonder if I need to add a volume pot to mine. Or can I just attenuate at the next pedal in the chain?

    DIY Direct Box?

No, the Countryman always needs voltage to drive the fet. The transformer is just a 2:1 ratio. The Unagi Magnetics E4305 (I'm guessing) is probably a higher-quality transformer since it's $62 compared to the $16 of the OEP clone, the Vigortronix VTX-101-002. I'll still build another cheap...

    DIY Direct Box?

I could lay out a PCB pretty quickly, but I don't know how many people would be interested in using the OEP transformer. I think they're only for sale in the UK. What transformer are you planning to use? I think Niki from N-Audio laid out the original circuit board for the OEP. Here's how mine...

    DIY Direct Box?

It's the good 'ol "country hick" project that's been online since 2004 (!!). I found some modifications on free stompboxes and elsewhere online. When I built one in 2012, I used an inexpensive OEP A262A2E transformer. The original tracer removed the phantom-powered circuitry and posted a...

    DIY Direct Box?

Very cool. I have the old layout from a Countryman DI, but it requires a transformer. I might just build yours instead since all the parts look common and inexpensive. Thanks for posting it!

10 linear power supplies on one board: shared ground? or isolated ground planes?

I once built a power supply that called for a 10Ω resistor from the supply ground to the chassis ground. I didn't fully understand what that does. But you use a 10Ω resistor on the positive rail? to ground? I was advised to "add pads" because "pads are free" so I've added a pad to the ground...

10 linear power supplies on one board: shared ground? or isolated ground planes?

Great info, thanks! What a unique concept. So I could lift the ground on 8 of the 9 DC jacks, and it would still work. 🤯 That never occurred to me. Great idea. I will experiment with it.

10 linear power supplies on one board: shared ground? or isolated ground planes?

2½ years later, I finally got the nerve to send for a prototype. Wish me luck! It's the product nobody needs, which seems like a fine reason to proceed.

Fuzz Factory for a friend (Ghostbusters themed)

Thanks for the tips and the kind words, gentlemen. I asked him to try a different guitar and report back. He's using his Gibson 335 exclusively lately, but he's got several others to choose from. Once he starts playing, the radio noise is drowned out by the notes, so it may be mostly a...

Fuzz Factory for a friend (Ghostbusters themed)

A friend asked for a Ghostbusters-themed Fuzz Factory. I documented my experience in this photo essay. Warning: no sound samples—just my nasally voice talking about building it. He's reporting that it picks up A.M. radio. I didn't have that problem on my test bench. If anyone has any...

US based seller of soldering supplies

I recommend Circuit Specialists too. I've gotten good deals on soldering stations, and de-soldering stations. Once they even threw in a free DMM. Now I return to them for expensive replacement tips. :p

Curds and whey distortion added to a better overdrive?

Oh wow. I would love to hear an almost-all-even-order-harmonic version of the Curds! To the breadboard!
