Help me identify some Ge transistors suitable for Fuzz Face and Tone Benders

Too many abbreviations and I'm lazy so I'm not gonna look them up. They key to using germanium in fuzz boxes is hfe, which you have listed and leakage. And, you can't use a simple multimeter to test hfe because leakage really fudges those numbers. Check out this site, read up, and build one of...

Anyone buy BBD from Tinkersphere? AVOID!

They look to be out of stock. Hopefully you were able to buy some, that's a good price

    Electrovibe Mockup Pedal

For those who want 15 volts regulated try the LDO reg LM2937-15 It only needs 15.6 volts input to regulate. Mouser has them. I haven't seen the schematic but will a 7660 or 1044 charge pump work with the current demands of this board or will it need the LT1054 charge pump?

    MN3207 available at GuitarPCB

Guitar PCB is kind of charging a lot for them! I also ordered the ones from Germany, the guy was super nice and helpful and he did say that it was going to take a while to get to North America. I can wait. I really wish Cool Audio or Belieng would make/sell 3204s (512 BBD) to the general public.

    Random pix

All these pics are beautiful, especially this one shot on color transparency film. I really miss Kodachrome 25. For me, that was the best film ever. So beautiful!

    Cap-less audio path?

Oh yeah, they're big shots!! Lol. For a challenge, try designing a vacuum tube preamp or amp without coupling caps. It has been done before... Oh yeah, an interstage transformer can't be used either! Lol! But seriously, DC coupling is by far superior to cap coupling in audio circuits but if...

    Cleaning PCB

Yeah, the "brake cleaners I've seen use chlorinated solvents which will eat through a lot of things used in electronics. A big No No... Go to the hardware store and buy a can of acetone. Mix it 50/50 with your 99% isopropyl alcohol, the mixture will work much better than your 99 iso only. In...

Capacitor question for newish pedal builder

If the cap is passing audio (coupling cap) film would be optimal out of the three types. All 3 types will work, film will sound the best

    2sk208-Y vs 2sk208-R Low Tide

I used a 2SK30A-GR (low end on the GR scale) also and it worked fine. You could also use a 2SK246-Y and it would work fine.

OP-AMPs in the power section, what's that all about?

Bingo! In power supplies, low impedance is almost always better than high impedance

    Pathogen JRC4580

I really like the 4580, for a cheap op amp. It's able to have a very low output impedance for an op amp, compared to a 4558 or TL072. It sounds good also. The 2068 is another nice op amp and also very cheap. I don't know if the circuit you talk about needs the low impedance out of the op amps used.

OP-AMPs in the power section, what's that all about?

Vr is voltage reference, usually half of the supply voltage. This is because most pedals use a single 9 volt positive supply. All op amps need a Vref which is usually half the supply voltage. Sometimes it's called the op amp bias voltage. Pro equipment usually uses a bipolar supply (+/-9v or...

OP-AMPs in the power section, what's that all about?

Yes, a cap wouldn't let the DC Vref through

OP-AMPs in the power section, what's that all about?

Well, it's gonna be an unused op amp otherwise, so might as well put it to use. A typical Vb circuit/supply is at a fairly high impedance, the voltage dividing resistors are usually in the range of 4k7 - 100k ohms. By feeding this high impedance Vb voltage into an op amp, the Vb turns into a low...

    Tone Vendor/Bender MK1... Some Observations

Hi everyone. I ordered a Tone Vendor MK1 board a bit ago. I've made most of the fuzz box types in the past except for this one. I was happy to see that PedalPCB offered a board for the MK1. I've read most everything I could find on the internet about the MK1 and the data and opinions about the...
