I've just recently finished up a 5F2-A and I adore the amp... ironically enough I haven't run any pedals through it yet... ... of course, I've been having too much fun running just about everything through the 5W clean channel of my Marshall Silver Jubilee running through my Lerxt Omega 2X12...

Heh... thanks to the Tone Geek's tutorial and this forum... I've gotten okay at laying out my own, and I'm not even sure I trust some of the schematics on a certain other retailer... much less the layouts... ... of course, now I just downloaded LTSpice and I'm trying to learn it so I can really...

So looking at the actual pedal vs. the mockup, is it really "Boost" on one side and "Bypass" on the other or is it "Boost" on the left and "Drive" on the right?

So I guess the operative question is why did MM set up the output like that. It looks as if the one lead is pre-soldered to the mount.

Okay - so... say Steggi wanted to be "fancy" and use an Mercury Magnetics transformer for the 5E3 build... Looking at the wiring diagram: The red, blue, brown, yellow, and black are all pretty clear... But the MM transformer has different wire colors... and only has four coming through the...

The side benefit of going with the carbon films on this build would be... well... I still have some leftovers from the 5F2-A build... not that resistors are really going to be the big cost sink here... though I am looking at the Jupiter electrolytic capacitors...

So if I go the Tweed route, on my previous build I subbed out the kit's carbon comp resistors with carbon films from Amplified parts... same this time? "Moar Mojo" with the comps????

Which OT did you use? I'm seeing the FTDO-59 for the 5E3.

I agree completely - any amp builds like this are the equivalent to a handwired, not the HVM version. I've been purchasing bits for some other amp projects that I'm holding off on until I build a couple more... but it's always worth doing right. :D

Yes... I now officially have the bug. Between my new Marshall and the 5F2-A I just got finished (not to mention my AC15), I've suddenly discovered the joy of real tube amp sounds... So now I'm trying to decide what to build next (realizing I'll likely eventually build both) before I start...

So... I'm finally getting into amp building and am looking at some of the higher wattage amps that I likely won't be able to use straight in the house... I've been looking at various attenuators, and they vary greatly in price / capability / mode of operation... Any one have thoughts? Advice...

I love that 3PDT daughter board from Drunk Beaver. I had some made up before I really started doing my own layouts. I may do something in the future without the dimmer switch because I rarely use it, but it is handy - and I love that I can put the LED to either side of the stomp switch...
