    M800 biasing and no sound

Thanks again for the info, I'll contact the guy at Taran. I think I'll just rip all the transistors out and start again. Pretty sure I used those same j201s in another build recently, most likely a cobalt drive, now I'm thinking it may not sound as good as it could.

Bugger out of stock at Taran too, they are popular!

    M800 biasing and no sound

Wow, I didn't even consider that they could be out of spec. I should have socketed them now that I'm thinking about it. I'm fairly new to this, gaining a little eperience each pedal I build. I will contact that australian company for sure. Is there a way to test the J201's I have in the...

    M800 biasing and no sound

I have been lucky enough to find one j201 here at home, I put this one in the tester, probably should have done that with all of them. But I don't know what the results mean anyway. Does the picture of the test below show a working jfet?

I'll remove some and reflow it anyway.

As in that pot may not be grounded properly? I'll have a look at that.

    M800 biasing and no sound

I noticed that in other posts, some people just said to leave trimpot 6 dimed. I will see if I can replace transistor 5, not sure if I have any left but I might, It'l be from the same place through. Is there a way of testing the transistor in situ to see if its the culprit and will this...

    M800 biasing and no sound

Very possibly eBay. I'm in Australia, a lot of parts can be hard to source here, especially the j201s I've noticed. Not really sure where to look that doesn't cost 10 times the price of transistors in shipping. Do you think the j201s are no good? Or at least the one in position 5?

    M800 biasing and no sound

Just finished an M800 build, photos attached. I have sound pass through when the effect is not on, however when I turn the effect on I have no sound. Maybe a switch problem, I thought I had continuity in the right places? Also I can bias transistors 1, 2, 3 and 4 to within of 4.5V, however, not...

M800 board has extra holes around trimmers

I didn't even notice that, I'm trouble shooting one that doesn't work now. Did they need to be jumpers?

SOLVED Lead Solder LED not worrking

Problem solved, Thanks for your help, pulled it apart to have a better look and turns out I just had the polarity mixed up, thanks for your help, turns out I'm just an idiot. Now I gotta figure out why the neck pickup has stopped working in my sons les paul style guitar.

SOLVED Lead Solder LED not worrking

They did, but it was preventing the PCB with pots and switches from going in to the enclosure so I took it out to save some difficulty, hence why I feel like they are shorting out. I haven't hada chance to open it back up again. Good sounding pedal though.

SOLVED Lead Solder LED not worrking

Will open it up again and have a look, I did try pulling just the switch out and trying to move the LED legs around through the switch hole, dont really kow if I was even moving them. I was avoiding pulling the whole lot out again, It's bugging me through, especially as there are 2 pedals same...

    Electrolytic Capacitors question

I've built a few drive pedals now, and I'm not brilliant with the theory side of things but I've noticed that some circuits have loads of electrolytic caps and some may only have 1 or 2. I know in a tube amp they filter the ripple out of the power supply, are they doing the same here and why the...

SOLVED Lead Solder LED not worrking

I did check, I've cut the leads shorter now though, but I'm 99% it's the right way round. Should there be continuity between both legs of the LEDs?

SOLVED Lead Solder LED not worrking

Hi everyone, I've just finished building a lead solder pedal. It was a pretty tight fit. The pedal works but the LED doesn't. I noticed the same issue with a thermionic I built, which is kinda same PCB pot layout. I have my LEDs in metal bezels, please correct me if I'm going down the wrong...

    ADHD Buffered or True Bypass

Thankyou, I've been playing with the switch from time to time and have noticed that sometimes the signal came throgh with the pedal power on and sometimes it didnt. Seems really logical now that you have pointed that out. Much appreciated.

Angry Frog (Mean Green Metal Machine)

Nice build, well done. I've just finished one of these, which I kind of primarly use to boost, as in Volume pretty high and gain pretty low, tone most of the way up depending on the amp. It seems to add quite a bit of noise to the signal when the volume is up past 2/3 to 3/4 of the way. Is this...

    ADHD Buffered or True Bypass

I built one of these recently and I really like it, my understanding was that one of the switches switched it from true bypass to buffered, can anybody tell me whther it is switch up or down or if there is a way of checking this? Thanks.
