yeah its a mixture of PNP and NPN transistors which makes me think of a problem of the pinouts

Mine works great, maybe on a strat it is a bit trebly with a MP38a of hfe 62. What your favourite hfe for this application?

Faulty silicon trans? Did you check it with a Tester?

Low leakage only on the first transistor necessary. The second transistor with the higher hfe has often more leakage by nature.

A foot switch crapped out on me. I cut the breakout board/switch out. I think of saving the breakout board by desoldering it with my hot air gun. Does that work? At what temperature?

The Lumbergs are a bit spendy. I bought a pack of Lumberg copies from Ebay. Good experiences so far.

My thought was that silver and gold have more and bigger solids in the laquer than other opaque colors. Warming and a good rattle makes them spread more even in the solvent. In the beginning more solid come out. So i do start with wasting some color on the bench cover and than move to the object.

Switch to smd jfets called MMBF5457, they are much more consistent than the thru holes and much cheaper.
