Lo-fi, wobble pitch, sound degradation pedals

I just built the Magnetron magnetic delay. It has built in modulation as well as an internal gain pot that allows you to degrade the repeats. It's not a bitcrusher, so if you're looking for chiptune stuff, it won't do that. But I feel like it achieves some great Boards of Canada effects.

    Magnetron Issue.

One other note: I hear a pulse-clicking noise when I turn the level up. Can't decide if it's the LFO rate that I'm hearing, or the delay time clock. I did use a TL074 instead of a OPA2134 (OPA wasn't available through Tayda.) Some people say the OPA is far clearer than the TL074, so maybe it...

    Magnetron Issue.

I replaced the Feedback logarithmic pot with a linear pot (A100K to B100K). I like the sweep better now, but I have to be really careful not to go into self-oscillation. I guess I'm wondering how this circuit could me modified to allow a "full wet" version of the repeats. Any ideas?

How can I desolder an “uncleanable” pcb pad?

Oh, I didn't realize I was supposed to flux the braid. Part of my problem I think!

How can I desolder an “uncleanable” pcb pad?

One of the through-board pads on a pcb I’m working on accidentally filled with solder, with no component in it. Now I can’t get the solder out. I’ve tried to clean the solder out of it with both a desoldering braid and pump, but I just can’t get a clean hole to reappear. I’ve also tried...

    Magnetron Issue.

Here's what a user on Reddit recommended: "Play with the value of the resistor in the feedback loop, and use a linear pot instead of a Logarithmic pot. To boost the volume of the wet path, try an 18k or 20k resistor instead of a 15k in the pt2399 circuit."

    Magnetron Issue.

The Magnetron works well and sounds amazing. But it seems like something's not quite right. Maybe I got a component or resistor wrong? I have to max out the Level pot for the wet repeats to be loud enough, and even then they're slightly quieter than the dry guitar signal. If I set the level...

Battery Acid fused to old solder?

I'm "cheating" a little with this post, but since it's a circuit and wiring problem, I thought I'd ask the experts here. It's about the expression pickup system in my 2005 Taylor acoustic. The battery and input jack come in a single plastic enclosure that slide out. The pickup system failed a...

Battery Acid fused to old solder?

I’m trying to fix an old battery connection, but somehow old crusty battery acid fused the solder onto the power lugs. I’ve tried to use desoldering braid but it won’t melt, and vinegar doesn’t remove it either. The dried blue-green battery acid + solder has hardened and fused over the holes of...

Internal Trimmer on Face of Pedal?

Same! Planning to box and test tomorrow.

Internal Trimmer on Face of Pedal?

Thank you! and the lazy way: wire it up however and just keep it if it’s reversed?

Internal Trimmer on Face of Pedal?

If I want to attach a regular pot to internal trimmer pads on a PCB, how do I know which lead goes to which pad?

    Arkaim Fuzz v2

Ah, gotcha. Makes sense. I was thrown off by the Arkaim v2 instead of Megalith v2.

    Arkaim Fuzz v2

Where do you see a v2 of the Arkaim with DIP switches? I think I only see the v1. I'm considering buying this one, and would love a newer model.

1/8 watt resistors for Hydra etc -- mandatory?

Churning through the Magnetron build. It's tight, so I'm standing up the resistors. Does it matter if they're standing straight up 90º, or if they're at 45º? When I stand them up, I am pinching the excess lead toward the resistor—i.e. rather than a straight angle, the leads form an L-shape...

    Rat with even more gain?

So thanks to everyone's comments, I have discovered a truly incredible sound (ultimate toan, as they say.) I put a Hudson Broadcast in front of the Rat, which then feeds into a Zvex Mastotron. Just the Broadcast+Rat sounds amazing together—full and powerful. But if I then click on the...

1/8 watt resistors for Hydra etc -- mandatory?

About to build a Magnetron and I too have 1/4w resistors. What does it mean to stand them up, or at 45º? Do you leave one lead longer and solder the resistor in a vertical position? Thanks!

    Build Notes, Circuit History, Documentation

You'd be great at this. I would help too but I am a lowly intern in this process. I can deliver mail or coffee or something :)

    Build Notes, Circuit History, Documentation

Your build docs are so great already, such an amazing service. The Wiki could work amazingly. One thought about that: it would allow people to ask questions about the circuit that would all be gathered under the circuit heading itself. That could be really beneficial.

    Build Notes, Circuit History, Documentation

I love all the PedalPCB circuits I've built. They're fantastic, and the downloads are extremely clear. One thought for future development. Would you consider including a brief history of each circuit as well as why any changes were made? I realize this would be a huge project given the number...
