I got Muffins on the Protoboard!

I FINALLY got the issue with my muffin circuit sorted this morning: I had a 12k resistor between the collector and ground on the 3nd clipping stage when I should have been a 390 ohm resistor. It sounds much better now, with an output level that matches my Green Russian build. I subbed 390pF...

I got Muffins on the Protoboard!

Sweet! I found that spacing out the transistors helped me understand and troubleshoot the circuit hugely. Each one has 4 - 8 additonal components to support it, so there's plenty of room to add those around the transistors and then jumper between each 'stage' of the circuit. This approach...

I got Muffins on the Protoboard!

Hi all, I kludged together one of the PedalPCB Protoboards a couple weeks ago and figured I'd put it through its paces after building my first Muffin Fuzz pedal about the same time and finding that there are all sorts of versions of the build in the BOM. I opted to build a Green Russian for...

Which jacks do I use for for microsplits?

Hey all, I grabbed a pair of TRS microsplits (PCB584) for ... TRS stuff. These are supposed to connect a TRS jack to a pair of TS jacks, but the pinouts on the boards have 6 pins for all 3 jacks, and I'd sort of expect just 4 pins for the TS jacks? What do I need to get parts-wise if I'm...

    SOLVED Angry charles not working

This pedal will be worth troubleshooting, it sounds AMAZE-BALLS. One of my very first builds and still an absolute go-to.

    Twin Face biasing questions

I swapped R4 for a 68k resistor and tested again, the voltage at the Collector of of PNP2 is now at 6.92V (down from 8.83), under the recommended 7V max, so we're in good shape as far as measurements go now! Thank you! The PNP side of the pedal does now sound brighter and louder, but still not...

    Switching for Pickup Simulator Pedal

Yeah I really like the idea of putting the pickup sim right into the pedal with the fuzz circuit, I'll definitely explore that and I'm sure both circuits would easily fit in a 125B enclosure if not a smaller one. Thank you for the updated schematic with the tone control tweak. I'll breadboard...

    Switching for Pickup Simulator Pedal

Haven't breadboarded it, I figured it was just as easy to throw it onto a little PCB. We'll see if it winds up on the pile of PCB's that didn't work out. That's just how I tend to design things these days (breadboarding would be much faster). I'm sure a humbucker would also do the job, but I...

    Switching for Pickup Simulator Pedal

I'm just using the schematic from here: https://www.muzique.com/lab/pickups.htm The schematic uses this approach for tone control, but I'm open to suggestions!

    Tone Vendor MK1 transistor options

Is there any value in also replacing R7 with a trim to bias Q3 as well? Is there an ideal voltage for the Q2 and Q3 collectors? I'm currently measuring -5.6V at the collector of Q2 and -7.0V at the collector of Q3. The pedal does sound nice to my ears using the transistors I have on hand...

    Twin Face biasing questions

Hi again, I'm back to looking at the PNP side of my Twin Face now that I know to measure the voltage at the collector rather than the emitter (thank you @leadfoot). Measuring voltage between GND and the collector of PNP2 while adjusting the 10k trim ranges from -8.89V and -8.83V, no where near...

    Tone Vendor MK1 transistor options

Hi all, I've got a Tone Vendor MK1 ready for transistors and I'm wondering if what I've got on hand might work. The BOM calls for an OC75 and a pair of 2G381's. I looked these up and the OC75 seems to have a minimum HFE of 55 and the 2G381's have a minimum of 75. I've got a bunch of MP39A's...

    Switching for Pickup Simulator Pedal

Clever placement of the input pad! I've moved the IN pad per your suggestion. The tracks were the default thickness for KiCAD, I haven't played enough with net classes to remember to change this at the outset of a project, but this one is simple enough to easily update. I've got 0.5mm traces...

    Switching for Pickup Simulator Pedal

Hi all, I'm working on a pickup simulator pedal based on this article. I've used KiCAD for a few years for little DIY projects and some fairly simple audio electronics projects, but this is my first time dealing with a footswitch and offboard wiring in general. I've successfully built many...

Guitar Pickup Simulator KiCAD transformer question

I've made an attempt at adding switching and an LED to the schematic, can anyone tell me if they're put together correctly? Pulled the switch, LED and battery bits from the A/B/Y pedal schematic. Thanks for any input!

    seeking 3PDT symbol for KiCAD

Hi all, I'm trying to get ahold of a 3PDT symbol for a stomp switch in KiCAD. I've added the Sparkfun-KiCAD-Libraries repo to my Symbol Libraries as I understand that there is one in that library, but I am not finding it in KiCAD after doing this. There is no 3PDT switch on the list. Can...

Guitar Pickup Simulator KiCAD transformer question

Hi all, I'm putting together a guitar pickup simulator based on this: https://www.muzique.com/lab/pickups.htm I'm not sure about the transformer and its connections. In KiCAD, I've selected a "Transformer_1P_1S" symbol and dropped it in as best I could, here's the schematic: Did I do it...

    Promethium loses signal around r22

Solved! I had a 100nF cap instead of 100pF installed at C7 that I had missed when verifying parts because I checked the value on C4 and then saw that C7 looked physically identical to it (except that it was labelled with 104 rather than 101 as it should have been) and assumed these two caps had...

    Promethium loses signal around r22

Thank you for the suggestions. A continuity check between Q3 base and R11 is good. I just re-measured voltages and have 7.77v at the two following test points highlighted in yellow as of this measuring. I'm testing the component leads and not the pads, as you suggest.
