HELP! Diptrace - First try at PCB layout

I think the layout is good. There are a few traces that could be made shorter, such as R2>C2, which could connect at the elbow that leads to pad 2 on your IC. Pad 6 on the IC to R4 could be made with one straight section and one angled section, rather than having two angled sections. Your...

HELP! Diptrace - First try at PCB layout

It's a personal thing and not at all necessary, but I put all my in/out pads on 2.54mm pitch so that they line up with PedalPCB breakout boards and quick connects can be used by those who like them. I have these x-axis numbers burned in my brain: IN: -3.81mm GND: -1.27mm SW: 1.27mm OUT: 3.81mm...

HELP! Diptrace - First try at PCB layout

🤬 I've been unnecessarily drawing quadrilaterals, when *of course* a triangle would work 🤦 I'm glad to have learned about 4 spoke thermals from these DipTrace threads, that was something new for me.

    HELP! PCB Layout Guidance

The other thing I do is try and always have traces on opposite sides crossing each other at 90° to one another. Sometimes I have to make individual traces less optimal for this to happen, is that the right priority?

    HELP! PCB Layout Guidance

I taught myself DipTrace by copying some of @PedalPCB's layouts for simple circuits. I think that's where the symmetry rubbed off, and also probably where the habit of placing outside rows of caps and interior rows of resistors comes from. It's a good strategy. Thanks Jamie 😁 I find doing board...

    HELP! PCB Layout Guidance

I started out with different widths for power traces and audio traces, and it's probably good practice, but I've stopped doing it. The circuits work either way in my experience so far. I think I got the trace widths I started with from a Madbean article that was worthwhile reading. I know...

Greer of Tone: Possible to make Southern Belle switchable to Mach 1 specs?

Thanks for the kind words @Stephenthegun I think you will really enjoy the Lightspeed/Mach 1. It's the pedal I most frequently "get in the zone" with for periods of time. Just makes everything sound better.

    Places to buy knobs

Hi Dan, Thanks for weighing in. Can I make the request that you add metric measurements to your product pages? It's so much easier to make a purchasing decision when I don't have to think (and check, and double-check) about whether the knobs will be an appropriate diameter. Cheers 😁

Greer of Tone: Possible to make Southern Belle switchable to Mach 1 specs?

Hi Stephen, I recently brewed my own PCB that has both circuits on it as a dual overdrive: Southern Lights Dual OD I made my Southland channel so that you can alternate and drop out the hard clipping diodes with an on-off-on SPDT switch. This cleans it up a bit but it's still grittier than...

Looks great, love the knob choice.

Ideas needed for bass guitar filter/distortion pedal effect

Finally back on this project. I've got all the parts, just need to work out where to place everything. If I was doing this again, I'd now lay it all out on one PCB, but I didn't have the skill at the time. I was thinking 3M sticky foam pads for keeping the boards in place, reckon that will work...

    Southern Lights (Greer of Tone)

Thanks for the comments. I've only been soldering for a year or so, but I focus on getting a nice "boob" shape to the fillets each time I do one 😁 I also make sure my iron is properly warmed up before starting. I have a cheapie iron at this point but will upgrade sometime this year. In terms...

    Southern Lights (Greer of Tone)

I've been shamed into posting this through reading the All In Good Fun thread 😅 I have been stepping up my pedal skills into designing my own PCBs in DipTrace (speaking of good fun!) and recently completed a build I've been wanting to do for ages. This two-channel overdrive has a Lightspeed...

    What's this alchemy? (Odr1 inside)

ODR-1s are my favourite drives. I like my Nobleman a lot, but sometimes it can get boomy, so I've made myself some PCBs of the ODR-1 circuit with added bass control pretty much like the Andromeda. Going to populate the board for testing tomorrow.🤞 This thread has made me doubt my desire for the...

    Mach 1/Southern Belle-based distortion

I've been messing around with both the Mach1 and SB schematics in DipTrace and having lots of fun with them. Great circuits. You can see how the designer built the later pedal from the earlier architecture. The Southern Belle can get pretty gainy for an OD and sounds good like that. What would...

    Parts list for new Woodpecker?

I'm getting pretty good at reading drive schematics so I thought I'd try and get my head around the Woodpecker as it seems a simple enough modulation circuit. R100 in the power section has me stumped though. I haven't seen a resistor there in the other schematics I've read and learned about so...

    Places to buy knobs

I should update this to say that Banzai have been in touch and the delay is absolutely reasonable on their end. They are back in my good books 😅 Around these parts they do 😎

    Places to buy knobs

Nothing, I love Tayda, they just don't have everything I need e.g. 27mm Boss style knobs in white. Most of my builds have Tayda knobs and will continue to, I just need to augment my options. Yeah, that's who I'm referring to as BLMS 😅 They have excellent stuff but their international shipping...

    Places to buy knobs

Help me out folks. I am looking for Tayda alternatives for buying knobs. Particularly Boss or MXR style knobs in multiple sizes, and also anything aluminium, are what I'm interested in. I found some great knobs at BLMS but shipping was going to cost >$80 AUD (I've ordered from there previously...

Ideas needed for bass guitar filter/distortion pedal effect

Update: I have finally received delivery of a wah shell. Anyone ever polished aluminium before? I think I'd like to make it shiny. No pics atm but the boards are populated and ready to be wired up once the enclosure is ready.
