With the guitar, my understanding is that the source (pickups) are different so the pots need to match. I'm sure someone much more wise can answer with assuredness.

At first glance, that's a lot of socketed transistors IMO. Sure makes for a bunch of possible points of failure. Secondly, check this switch connection I've marked to make sure it's not bridged.
