    General perf board question

Leads is definitely easier. I tried the bridge of solder blobs method, but it was difficult and ugly. I’ve seen it done well, but I couldn’t get the hang of it.

DEMO Aleph Null 'Troglodyte' Self Oscillating Reverb

Sounding good! I totally agree about that sway control. Similar to the modulation on Aleph’s Tape Delay, it’s pretty tasteful. I can leave both of those on and not get annoyed by them. It does interact with the feedback, saturation, and onset controls. If you crank those up to goofy territory...

    hydra delay

If you order a hydra board from ppcb it will come with a 24lc32a with the hydra program loaded on it. There will be an option to get the hydra board with the FV1 pre-soldered to the board, or you can order that separately if you’re excited to solder it yourself.

    Testing op amps

I bought one of these when I was working on an ARP 2600 that had a bunch of failed op amps. https://synthchaser.com/product/synthchaser-op-amp-tester/ I imagine there are schematics around for something similar. That guy has a bunch of videos on synth repair that were super helpful to me, so...

    Thanks! That Polivoks looks awesome.

    Nein!

No real surprising trick to it, just getting in and out as fast as I can. It's regular cheapo PVC wire. It definitely melts pretty easy. High temp (750f) and good contact help with the speed. I do add a little dot of solder to the iron tip before I start the joint to help with the transfer...

    Nein!

I read your post about it when I was trying to figure this out. There are definitely some weird sounds at certain bias knob settings. I tried changing pedal order after reading your comment about that. Putting the 900 after my tuner with a buffer seemed to limit a weird note decay sound I didn't...

Fairfield About 900 This is an interesting one. Huge range of sounds, and I like a lot of them. This one is going to hang out on the pedal board for a while. The interesting part is that dialing a particular sound is not that intuitive. Lots of knob tweaking and head scratching. I took a...

    Red Big Muff sounds bad

Great advice! That's what I recommend to other people 100% of the time on troubleshooting threads. Put the right parts in the right holes, and these PPCB boards tend to work first try. I did take a few passes through all the components and I feel pretty confident I got them right. I had forgot...

What are the most rugged 1/4" jacks people are using?

My preferred jack is these Neutrik ones from Tayda. https://www.taydaelectronics.com/neutrik-6-35mm-1-4-mono-chassis-socket-jack.html I use those anywhere they’ll fit. They seem more rugged than the few switchcraft jacks I’ve used. I see there’s also a Tayda branded version that’s half that...

    Liquid Crystal / EQD Chelsea

The EQD hype machine convinced me to build yet another muff. This one gave me some trouble. It worked right away, but (at least on bass) it was doing some weird sagging and sputtering that didn’t seem right to me. After the third re-boxing and a swap at Robert’s suggestion from 2n5089 to 2n3904...

    Selling pedals - final prep?

Warranties are cool, and probably a good business practice. If you’re trying to make a name for yourself and start a real business where you’re charging real living wage money for your pedals, that makes sense to me. If you’re just looking to dump some excess builds and you’re competing with...

    Red Big Muff sounds bad

I do like that better! It still gets a tiny bit unruly at max sustain on bass but in a nice way to my ears. It doesn’t sound broken anymore. I’m a little worried that maybe it was cool before, and I just wasn’t cool enough to like it, but that’s a me problem.

    Selling pedals - final prep?

I talked to my local music store about maybe putting a few pedals there in some kind of consignment arrangement. They said if someone returns a purchase and isn’t happy with it, they’re basically going to give them their money back, and I said I would be comfortable doing the same. If something...

    Red Big Muff sounds bad

Great page! I didn’t do very deep research, but I did find that site in a @Feral Feline post and skimmed it. Seems like if I want to stop taking shortcuts and put the time in, all the answers are there. I’ll give that a shot!

    Red Big Muff sounds bad

Thanks for those. Those were both good demos. Something I failed to mention was that I’ve mostly been testing the pedal on bass since that’s where I was hoping to use it. I did plug a guitar into it for a few seconds and it sounded much more normal.

    Red Big Muff sounds bad

Thanks! I’m hit or miss with my pcb cleaning, but I happened to clean that one pretty good. Still haven’t found anything obvious wrong with it. I have a second one of these boards. I might just build that out and see what it sounds like.
