Update. I followed up on what @benny_profane mentioned and took a closer look at the deadendfx schematic. It looks like the resistor that needs to get bumped to 150k is the one between pins 1 and 2 of the op amp, which would be R3 on the PPCB board. Far be it from me to question @Robert, but I...

Bad news - changing R11 from 33k to 150k lowered the output volume.
