NSFW What's up with the buffers in cornish designs?

I don't think this is directed at me, but I feel like I have to make it clear that this was not my intention when making this post. I recognized the bootstrapped design and was genuinely curious as to why it would be used, since there are more parts involved. That's good to know, I might give...

This Week on the Breadboard: The Dark Esbat

I'm not a jfet master like Chuck, but I can help you with the fet measuring process if you want. Shoot me a PM if you want to do it

NSFW What's up with the buffers in cornish designs?

I'm not opposed to buffers at all! My question is related to the complexity of the buffers used. What could be the benefits of a bootstrapped emitter follower versus an opamp, for example

NSFW What's up with the buffers in cornish designs?

Motivated by the new aion traces, a question has emerged. If I'm not horribly mistaken (wouldn't be the first time), the buffers in those Cornish designs are bootstrapped emitter followers. I know this allows for higher input impedances, but is it worth the extra effort for a guitar pedal? Thanks!

Best way to measure fet smd parameters?

Ok, thanks! That's what I'll do

Best way to measure fet smd parameters?

I have some smd jfets on their way and I would like to match some for a phaser. How do you guys suggest I keep them in place?

Re: End All Red OD Trimmer Settings

There's also the service manual for the RG80 (pretty much the same thing circuit wise) that shows some voltages. If you were to bias it like the amp, you should look for ~3/5 of your supply voltage in the drain of the first fet and ~1/2 in the drain of the second one. But it's likely you will...

    MBP Cupcake (Armstrong Orange Squeezer)

Nice job! Insides perfect and I dig the color In my experience, the sustain trim has a very limited useful range. edit: IIRC, effectslayouts has a board with a different implementation of a compression control (as well as a blend)

Help Me Think Through A Substitute Question

The official schematic for the AMT SS-30 can be found online and there they use a BAS70 in the place of the BAT85

Help Me Think Through A Substitute Question

Now that I see it, it's not exactly the same thing (there's an extra resistor in the amt page). But I think that's the original idea https://media.amt-sales.com/why-tube-like-cannot-measure-up-to-tube-inside/

Help Me Think Through A Substitute Question

This is based on a triode emulation proposed, if I'm not mistaken, by Viktor Kempf (?). It's widely used in AMT designs. I think it's supposed to cause some degree of clipping asymmetry. I suppose you'd be fine with most Schottky diodes there

The Week on the Breadboard: Sabbra Cadabra

A pair of 2sk117-GRs gives less gain, but a similar tone roll off (according to ltspice). I'll see if I manage to breadboard it this weekend

The Week on the Breadboard: Sabbra Cadabra

LTspice comes with some stock models for 2N4393 and PN4393, are you using those? I'll try to play a little with some other jfet models and try to match it a little

The Week on the Breadboard: Sabbra Cadabra

Looking for some higher gain pedals, so I'm definitely interested in this one! What makes the 4393 so critical? A particular combination of Idss, Vgs and capacitance?

    Mosfet Driver problem

Good news that you got it to work! Hint: you're looking for a non-inverting operational amplifier stage

MOSFET Driver after other pedals (impedance question)

I'm no master by any means, but I find it very interesting. A bit of a learning curve, but nothing terrible.

MOSFET Driver after other pedals (impedance question)

have you tried it with a buffer? a boss pedal, for example? IMO 'properly' is a trick word to use here, because I'd say it works properly when it sounds like it should, but I see what you mean. I'm not sure that's what's going on, but it might be a case similar to those fuzzes (like a fuzz...

MOSFET Driver after other pedals (impedance question)

As I've mentioned before, I have very little understanding of the concept of impedance so take everything with a grain of salt. Running some tests on LTspice, I've noticed that, when you plug a guitar straight to the input (assuming my pickup simulation is correct) there's a lot of treble roll...
