We are full noiseless stage with IEMS as well.... I have been playing modelers for years but recently bought a Hotrod Deluxe III and have been using that mic'd up in an isolation cabinet back stage on a long cable run.. I'm actually digging the amp a lot.. responds to pedals and volume changes...
I've built three of chucks bass klons for bass friends and all of them absolutely love it on bass as an always on..... That's definitely the drive I will build for them.. Not sure what I should build for a compressor so it doesnt cut off any frequencies for them though.
For the most part the players they rotate through.. about five different guys show up with only their bass and plug into the fiddly little pedal they have on stage.. One guy has a complete pedalboard with all kinds of nice pedals... His goes as deep as any of us.. has flanger, octave pedals...
I've run into the same issue with high gain metal can BC108's on the same build.... Do you happen to have any BC108A's? Thats what I ended up finding with much lower HFE values and it pretty much stopped all the weird stuff
