Anyone ever have an 8 string bass?

Yeah, I have been kicking around the idea of finding a cheap short scale kit and see if I can modify it to an eight string. I briefly played one of those Deans. It was okay, but in no way worth the money, maybe if it was $350-400, but certainly not for $800-900. Not so worried about fatigue...

Anyone ever have an 8 string bass?

Just curious. I have been GAS'in for one forever. I love playing twelve string guitars and I wonder how the octave strings sound on bass. All the videos I see on line are people playing groove/funk stuff which is not my cup of tea. Don't get me wrong, I have loads of respect for people who can...

    CONTEST Happy Day Turkey!

@Bricksnbeatles hang in there man, you aren’t the only one. Find time to do the stuff you want to do, instead of focusing on the negative. Might sound cliche but start exercising if you don’t already. I started working out four-five times a week this past year and it really keeps the depression...

New Guitar Day: I've Certainly Got a Type

Yeah, you can say that again. It’s to the point now that I have no idea why I’d ever spend more than $500 or so on a new guitar. I have read that Mascis pushed fender to leave the neck completely unfinished but the folks at Fender wouldn’t, so that finish was the compromise.

    Pre-purchase 'pinions appreciated

I have both a Trio and a Trio plus. I got the trio on blowout for $50 and later picked up the plus for cheap. They are pretty good, I wouldn't expect miracles but they are fun to practice with and certainly better than a metronome. My only complaint about the plus is that it can't "learn" from a...

    Black Friday impulse purchases?

I bought a bunch of records I didn't plan on getting today, does that count? None were on sale and I'm okay with that

Not a day goes by that I don’t feel lucky to have such an amazing wife and three really cool kids.

Now Playing... What are you Listening to Right Now?

I thought about making a clip of me playing the riff to this song and posting it online with the instructions -loop for twenty minutes -you can sing anything you want to Alice’s Restaurant It’s not a particularly easy riff though, I can play it but rather poorly. Plus I don’t have an...

Share YOUR music! (full tracks, clips, demos, loops, jams, whatever)

The Bronx Cheer and the Jawari are probably my favorites. The Harmonic Jerkulator is a decent approximation of the Harmonic Percolator, I go a transformer based octave working on the end of the circuit once and it was super gnarly and cool sounding, couldn't make it reliably work though. The...

Share YOUR music! (full tracks, clips, demos, loops, jams, whatever)

It’s one of Tim Escobedo’s circuit snippets http://www.jiggawoo.eclipse.co.uk/guitarhq/Circuitsnippets/snippets.html Lots of killer stuff from circa 2000ish. Turn on the century DIY stuff :ROFLMAO: Yeah, there is a big part of me that wants to start a group who build them all and makes...

Share YOUR music! (full tracks, clips, demos, loops, jams, whatever)

Nice idea. I rarely ever share music. Your track sounds pretty cool. I am going to start building a little synth stuff later this year so it's interesting to listen to what people are doing with it. Probably one of the more applicable things I've recorded in years is this little bit. It was...

Help me wire a 9v battery clip to the Parasite PCB

Nice. I was worried that would cause the battery to stay active when the input was unplugged. Go to know.

    Can't remove back of enclosure?

Was it powder coated? I’ve had a similar problem with their powder coated enclosures before. The coating is so thick it makes the back way to tight. I just wedged a flathead screwdriver in and twisted it until it loosened. It got a little scratched but so be it. If you want to keep it from...

GigRig Wetter Box: My New Favorite Pedal

I looked it up it’s a little different than what I built but I set it’s superior by quite a bit. Mine just split into stereo then had two loops, easy with a blend control, the two outputs.

GigRig Wetter Box: My New Favorite Pedal

Nice, I built something last summer to do that exact thing. This solution looks far superior, and I bet it sounds better.

Help me wire a 9v battery clip to the Parasite PCB

So, it’s probably not to difficult, however you’ll have to forgo having the jacks mount to the board, and wire them up instead. Personally I wouldn’t mess with it. If memory serves the inside pads (closest to the middle of the board) of the jacks are the tip, middle are the ring and last are...

    Surfy Industries Modulation pedals

Yeah, I’ve been considering that one. Ultimately the amp I’ll use if i ever have a band a play shows again has a great spring reverb in it, but it is not an at home playing kind of amp. I have an assortment or little things I’ve built or cobbled together for using at the house. Some good Belton...

Now Playing... What are you Listening to Right Now?

Sonic Youth is one of my favorite bands, and I have listened to most of the member's post SY records. Some are very good, and a decent amount falls flat to me. Lee's stuff is generally alright, very psychedelic rock meets SY stuff with interesting sounds, seems very true to form. Thurston's...
