    What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

That's really cool. I'm planning on doing a desk overhaul in the spring and I have something along those lines planned. I like everything right in front of me so I want to put the bins inside cabinets that slide on tracks out of the way, like closet doors. I thought of drawer slides but I wasn't...

    What's your current headache?

Try this first 1- Empty your trash. 2- Next, at the top left of your screen is the Apple Menu. Choose "Develop", then "empty caches". If that doesn't work, continue to this: 3- Now open "Email" in your tool bar and delete your emails. You can archive important ones to save. 4- While still in...

Your best and worst pedal hot takes? 🔥

I feel like 10 or 20 years ago every pickup was like 12-16k because they're metal and brutal and intense, but then people tried playing them thru a normal amp and that's where the mudbucker idea came from. I'm still surprised when I see vintage footage of bands playing old Les Pauls with PAFs...

    What's your current headache?

I have an appt for a root canal in two weeks and I cannot wait for this pain to be over. It is an intense, sharp, throbbing pain in the side of my temple that I cannot block out. It starts with a dull pain in my face and then I have to dig into the space between two of my teeth with floss and...

    Capacitor question

You can use film but being that it's not in the audio path a ceramic (or more specifically MLCC) is fine to use. Film are bigger and more expensive so they are typically reserved for the audio path, but here there's no need for them.

Solder won't flow nicely on some PCBs

Solder flow issues are almost always due to a lack of heat. If you're using lead free solder start with your iron at around 350C and go up from there maybe to around 450 if the solder doesn't melt within one second of touching to the iron and components. Also a thicker tip transfers heat...

    Ppcb forum re-evaluation

What got me started on this was doing an A/B test with a toggle taking the pot out of the circuit and putting it back in. There was no difference with the pot on 10 and in the circuit vs removed from the circuit. I actually have 250k pots in my HSH strat now and it's very bright. When I dial the...

    Spiteful Boost

This didn't start off as a spite build - it became one. I've been working thru the backlog of older boards. This was my first attempt at SMD soldering. It was a little scary at first but I watched a couple vids and it wasn't that hard to pick up. I built this before the weird voltage chip...

    Raincoat

I wanted to try out this original circuit. When I was brainstorming design aesthetics for the enclosure what came to mind was a storybook yellow rain coat, and the knobs are blue rain drops. And the gut shot It's a big muff circuit without the clipping diodes. I read up on it and people...

    Fumble Boost

I don't normally name my pedals but this one was christened NSFW because it's the BBC-1 I tried out some metallic paints on these. I'm not a fan of the consistency of the metallic as they need at least two coats for good coverage, but it came out pretty decent. I off boarded one of the pots so...

    Ppcb forum re-evaluation

My favorite reddit argument is the one about 500k knobs affecting the tone of pickups differently from 250k. And people wiring an HSS guitar with 250k pots and a resistor in series with the humbucker so it "sees" a 500k pot like it isn't some bullshit

    Ppcb forum re-evaluation

Much of reddit reads like 14 year olds to me. It's either people seeking validation or they're stuck in their echo chamber confirmation bias dunning krueger bs. The diy pedal sub is the worst. It's like a running contest how shitty they can make pedals

    Six band equalizer potentiometer style

It's not over yet. There's always going to be a reason it's not working - we just need to find out what that reason is. We will find it, it's just a matter of time. The popping noise means DC is in the signal path somewhere. We just have to find out why. A common place for this to happen is at...

    Power Filter Section

Many designs I've seen have a 100uf electrolytic cap placed from the pos rail to ground. Is this called a filter cap or a bypass cap? (Trying to clarify terminology) Sometimes there is also a 100nf film or MLCC in parallel with the 100uf, and sometimes the electrolytic value is smaller, like...
