    Nine ball OD

Follow up. There's nothing I'd change except more output. It can get a tad noisy at upper levels but then so did the amp I guess. It's been fun to fart around with. Next up is the 800... Against my better judgement I got one of those little knob setter thingies and it fun to have all the...

    L5 Preamp - New Version

If I recall, on mine I tried really hard to follow the setup guide and ended up just tweaking it by ear. I have the real thing so was able to get it in the same ballpark just by feel. Plus it really depends on if you want to push a power amp or use this as an effect. Labs have a pretty wide...

    What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

Chris you still have the Pelham SG? Or am I cross pollinating gear lust objects... Last time I was at Chicago Music Exchange I saw a (then) new SG in Pelham with P90's and a wraparound tailpiece with a chunky neck. I was in love. Then I flipped over the price tag. I had to go outside and...

    What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

Wait a minute, I use pencils (the kind you have to sharpen) AND I wish I could use CTRL-Z on the rest of life, let alone a keyboard.

Inverted Cross Audio Thunderdome Amp WIP

I quite like the soldering iron meets mushrooms vibe of the original faceplate. Not so much on a dark stage maybe.

    RUSH IS BACK!

I'm not really looking at this as Rush tbh. Last tour I saw was Clockwork Angels. I'm looking at it as the rest of Rush getting itchy and wanting to get out and have fun again. There's gonna be haters. I wouldn't even mind if they played a tune or two from Geddy's solo album (although Alex...

    RUSH IS BACK!

I gotta think if Ged and Alex think she's capable of pulling off Peart's spirit she must kill. They're talking about going out with keys and another guitar as well so this could be pretty interesting. I don't have a problem with it at all, given that it's not REALLY Rush. I'd like to see the...

    What’s on *YOUR* workbench?

Bass boat glitter  I remember seeing a guy in a bar band playing a 70's Les Paul Deluxe in blue glitter (this was back in the 80's) and thinking it was one of the coolest Paul's I'd ever seen. The cream binding didn't really jive, nor did the pickup mounts for the mini buckers but it...

Electro Harmonix Bender Royale - Orange or Black?

Hadn't occurred to me till now that this is the least EH looking pedal they've ever made. This looks far more PPCB than EH.

Affinity Software - October 2025 Announcement

Crap, I’m so naive. I glossed over the email and just assumed it was a new app. This blows if it’s the end.

    The Helix revisited

Second weekend out with the big beast. Just ridiculously good sounds. There is a current "worship tone" that's pretty prevalent that is Vox (or variant) based with tons of reverb and delays. By itself it sounds overly processed but in a mix it sounds REALLY good. Now if I had my druthers...

    Nine ball OD

I read the Premier Guitar review and got the impression that this thing doesn't get very loud. I'm surprised he didn't call them out on it and it's Ted D. (the now ex-editor) doing the review. I'll have to dig up a video or two to see where their settings are. Other than that it's a lovely...

    Nine ball OD

Mine's about the same. I was kind of expecting this to be unity about half way up or so but in testing (not boxed yet) The volume is cranked and if the contour is backed off the gain has to be at least half way up.

    The Helix revisited

This has been a long time coming. I bought this beast from Stickman a good chunk of time ago and worked with learning the ropes. Not too bad to get fairly proficient at it really but it's a bit of a learning curve getting into nuances and figuring out how to streamline patches. In a live...
