    Favorite Promethium/HM-2 mods?

reduces the gain of the boost section from "way too much" screaming death mode to a more reasonable distortion pedal. very similar to the Orman DS-1 mod.

    Hirsute Fuzz vintage silicon

heard. though I will also present this: when you have a tackle box full of mojo transistors, put them in a fuzz :D It's starting to look like hoarding parts as opposed to collecting them to use at the right time. I'm not a dragon, they aren't treasure.

    Hirsute Fuzz vintage silicon

Thank you. I haven’t yet, and somehow it has slipped my mind. But I’ll have to get around to that one. Maybe throw in some vintage transistors and see what magic it holds

Smaller input cap, larger output cap. More balanced than just nuking the input cap. Gets to squawky like that.

Finally got a minute to shoot a demo when my neighbors wouldn’t kill me Telecaster into a modded vht special 6 ultra, unidyne 3 on a vintage 30

    Hirsute Fuzz vintage silicon

Thank you 😊. It’s waterslide, which gets a little rocky when the surface isn’t flat. So any raised bumps in the paint were very gently sanded. Clear coat, sand, clean, repeat until the surface is relatively flat. Clear waterslide plays a little nicer, especially tossed in the oven on low for a...

    Hirsute Fuzz vintage silicon

A little over a year ago I posed about the germanium Hirstute Fuzz Vintage Deluxe, a shimmery purple affair with a switchable pre-gain and a giant VU meter in the center. My interest in getting more out of a fuzz face has not ceased. So now I present Hirsute Fuzz Vintage Silicon. Powered by...

    Perplexed

ahhh so you did the same as I did, but yours looks better. I've submitted that as a request and it was ignored. MOST of us are using the small trim pots and layouts drawn with the x-small footprint don't play nice unless you bend the pins funny.

@HamishR where did you find a component footprint for the trim pots? or did you make your own?

VHT Special 6 Ultra - lots of mods

I “fixed” the diode clipping to the point where both sides worked, but wasn’t satisfied with the sound. So I moved it to where Friedman/jose put hard clipping. And that sounded just awful. So I’m officially at a loss about what to do with that. At the last stage of the preamp, where rob said to...

VHT Special 6 Ultra - lots of mods

Well I sacked up and put it all back together. Master volume works wonderfully. It’s probably the most crude MV, but it works and it’s not obliterating the tone. Jumpered over the variable power section. Nothing caught on fire, so I’d say that worked fine. Bright switch ks phenomenal. The...

VHT Special 6 Ultra - lots of mods

yes, it was intentionally built on eyelet board to make it a platform for mods. everything has been easy to get to, just when it comes to power related things I'd love a second opinion 😅

VHT Special 6 Ultra - lots of mods

Howdy. I've got a VHT Special 6 Ultra that was purchased for the singular purpose of demoing pedals for videos. It needed a couple things to make it more flexible. Firstly a selectable bright cap on the "Ultra" channel. It's really dull under half. Added diode clipping per Rob Robinette's...

    Sheepylove Pelota 2 Delay

I've built a few of each. the Pelota is inherently more hi-fi, so much so that I add a tone control. it's super rad to be able to get repeats that don't sound like they are under water and still use a 2399. it may not do the tape echo thing as well, but it does a lot more than just the one...

Measured odd and common diodes IV curves

i'm happy to add to the science I tested 10x NOS KD521 against 5x current production 1N4148 I knew the fV was a little lower. The curve isn’t dramatically different. The 4148’s are astounding accurate to one another. The 521’s a little less so. A couple wild ones in there. Maybe that’s why we...
