Your 5v regulator is the wrong way round.

I’d say that’s normal for a fuzz face. If your gigging and have a volume pedal then use that after the pedal to cut the sound.

Where is your ground wire from the jacks going? They are insulated jacks so if that wire isn’t connected to ground your circuit isn’t either. If you have a good ground connection then next step is to check voltages of op amps and then use a audio probe to see where the signal isn’t passing.

Have you got a cover on the bottom pot under the PCB? It could also be grounding out due to your metal power jack.

Is that Ge NPN or PNP? This is a NPN based circuit. If you have sockets in try the bc108s again. Be careful with Bc183s as they have a different pin out. I’m hoping you can bias it correctly with the 108s in place. If you can’t double check your resistor values.

Have you biased the pedal? This is done by setting the voltage on Q2 collector (usually around to half supply voltage but adjust to taste) via the combination of trimmer and the external bias pot.

Clearly the wood resonates with the frequency of the fuzz to enhance the tone.
