Waterslide Decal Wording? One long strip or individual words?

If you’re not going to start over, I’d say leave it the way it is. You’ll see the strip under the clear coat, but I think it’ll look better than if you scratch it up trying to cut it.

    Acid Etch Transfer Help

I bet building pedals has provided you with the kind of skills that might be applied to taking apart an iron and over-riding whatever kind of movement sensor is in there. For the flatness issue, I wonder if there's something you could put in between the iron and the enclosure that would...

    Acid Etch Transfer Help

Nah, just what I had the most of at the time. Like JWin I think gloves are a good idea. Bare sanded aluminum is very hungry for your skin-oils.

    Acid Etch Transfer Help

I haven't etched any full enclosures, but I've etched a lot of little name plates. I had a big batch of failures this year that I attributed to not pre-cleaning enough. After I stripped them all with naptha and scotch-brite I had much better results.

    non-C0G/NP0 MLCC caps

I've heard the same stuff. You know what I've never heard? "My pedal was noisy and bad sounding, so I changed the caps to a different brand/ tolerance/ class, and now it sounds much better" Maybe you could be the brave soul who breadboards a circuit or two, auditions some different caps and...

El Sol Distortion PCB is different than the schematic

The dot indicates the location of pin#1. The pins are numbered counterclockwise. Some DIP8 (Dual Inline Package, 8 pin) ICs have a dot, some have a little mouse-bite out of the top, some have both. PPCB boards normally indicate the top (pin one end) with the indent on the silk screen. Pros...

El Sol Distortion PCB is different than the schematic

Sorry for laughing at your pain @kirt1974 - we’ve all been there. Getting that resistor out might not be too bad, but those ICs will be a challenge.

El Sol Distortion PCB is different than the schematic

Looks like maybe you put a resistor where that cap was supposed to go (lower middle). Also looks like your ICs might be upside down. A little.

Rotten Apple making a clicking sound

Looks like you've got a red wire connected to the DC ground point on the PCB. What side of your DC jack is that connected to?

    Obsessive pedal lettering

That's pretty much how I used to do it, except I was just mounting loose pots to hold the knobs. Another faster way to temporarily use knobs would be to get some 1/4" rod, cut it into small pieces, and mount your knobs to the rod stubs. That way you could place and remove the knobs through the...

    Obsessive pedal lettering

Yup. Thats a drafting machine from an old school drafting table. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drafting_machine Oh yeah, the video is sped way up. I use the calipers to measure how wide the written word will be, then to transfer the measurement to a starting point on a brass dummy-knob. That...

    Obsessive pedal lettering

I have a precision jig table for welding setups. It’s a 3/4 ground plate with a grid of 1/2 13 tapped holes that were done on a CNC so they’re all square to each other. The lettering rig gets mounted to that table so I can reference the clamped enclosure and the drafting arm to the grid. Here’s...

    SOLVED Mini KoT no LED

Not all DMMs have a beep function, but that looks like it would be one to me. Could you have a bad probe? Do other functions work? In a pinch you could click over to the left and measure the resistance in ohms - no continuity expected on the switch = infinite ohms, continuity expected = some...

Since when have j201 TH been manufactured again?

I took a quick look at Ebay - Looks like the prices on the (fake?) NOS ones are way down. Looks like I waited too long to cash in :ROFLMAO:

SOLVED Low Tide Modulation Behavior Troubleshooting/Tuning Questions

If a pedal is passing signal but not behaving as expected I always start with a a full component check. I print the build doc and highlight or check off each part as I go, cross referencing color codes and cap codes against what should be in each spot. It also serves as a good general visual...

ICs and Transistors, Socket or Solder?

I don’t always put my ICs in upside down, but when I do I’m sure glad I used a socket.
