This Week on the Breadboard: Shallow Water

As a NASA guy, I'm sure you know that the term 'heavy water' has additional meaning outside of music. So to keep with the various nuclear sub-themes, perhaps one of the pots could be labeled along the lines of 'Fusion' or 'Moderator'? Happy holidays!

EAGLE USERS...2026 IS HERE. WHAT TO DO?

I would not pay for someone to email me the code + license #, as there's too high a likelihood that they're reselling it multiple times, which the company would legitimately get pissed enough to take action. But buying the physical disc + cover/box + printed license # for a modest amount is a...

    1/4W Resistor in 1/8W size?

Yes, I've bought some as well. They're fine, and even very useful when you have to parallel two resistors to make a resistance value you don't have. I will note that very few of our circuits in normal operation generate enough current to get these resistors even close to 1/4 watt. So while...

EAGLE USERS...2026 IS HERE. WHAT TO DO?

Good question. I don't know the answer when it comes to Eagle, as I don't know them or their software. And I definitely don't know how aggressively they manage their licenses. But I have in the past bought software discs + old licenses for scientific software from other people, and it worked...

EAGLE USERS...2026 IS HERE. WHAT TO DO?

Have you looked into buying a license from somebody else who no longer uses the software?

    Resistor values and Noise

    1. Physical size (or wattage rating) has no impact on intrinsic Johnson (thermodynamic) noise, provided the resistor is not heating excessively. However, size is one of several things that can impact the extrinsic noise, so-called excess noise - which typically has a "1/f - like" frequency...

    Deadendfx Reflektor no delay signal

2 off-the-cuff quick comments: Can you include pics of the underside of the PCB, so all the solder connections can be inspected? Just looking at the ground lug solder job on the right-hand audio jack in the photo above raises soldering concerns in my mind - that solder didn't wet the connector...

Cool patent, it's from Varian Associates for use w/ a klystron... That woke up some old neurons that haven't been touched in ~40 yrs...

    Ultrasonic cleaners

As to good brands, unfortunately I just don't know. I have a really old lab-grade unit that I bought used ~20+ yrs ago, it's gotta be 40 yrs old but it still works great. But it's pretty powerful and is maybe 2-3 liters, so I don't use it for electronics as I fear it might damage them. I use...

    Linearizer style circuits

As always, you're very observant. I had glanced at the schematic before, but stupidly didn't recognize the bridge-like configuration as it's not drawn in the conventional "diamond" way - duh...

    Ultrasonic cleaners

I thought most lower cost units possess an ac oscillator plus one or more piezoelectric transducer(s), typically made of PZT. They typically generate signals of order several volts RMS*, to generate sufficient vibration from the piezo drivers. So check the oscillator output, as well as...

    BA482 diode equivalent for Bootleg?

Just adding an update to this old thread, to help others looking for BA482 alternatives. The BA482 is a desirable diode for the Bootleg as well as for the Mojito Deluxe OD. The NOS alternatives to the BA482 - such as MA859, MA858 or 1SS168 - are all expensive and hard to find. Plus, buyer...

@Robert - THANKS! I'm just making sure I have (or order) the key parts. Happy Thanksgiving!

    Article 59 OD ICs

@Robert - I see the new Article 59 OD webpage shows the MC33178 under 'you may also like'. As the build doc is TBD, let me ask: Does the Article 59 use the MC33178? If yes, how many? Also, is one of the 3 ICs a charge pump? As always, thanks again for keeping up your output of new pedals!

Park and ride, signal not getting through

Welcome aboard! Are those opamps in the correct orientation? Pin 1 should be at upper left. The film cap values look ok. Verify your resistor values, the colors are always hard to read properly from a photo (at least for my eyes). Also verify the pot values. And send a good pic of the lower...
