    Rack stuff... mounting questions

Get the style that's like made out of 90° angle steel, like these: https://www.amazon.com/Gator-Rackworks-Heavy-Steel-GRW-RACKRAIL-04U/dp/B0727PNMTF/ They're much easier to mount and also stronger.

    Rack stuff... mounting questions

@drgonzo1969 - One option is to just buy rack screw rails, and mount them on a wood frame - if you're trying to save $$. E.g., like these: https://www.fullcompass.com/prod/524292-grundorf-41-016p-16ru-rack-rails-pair I'm not saying these are the best ones to buy, just what popped up when I...

    What's on the workbench?

Hysterical! But shouldn't the Fuzz knob's label be upgraded to 'Hair' or maybe even 'Pubes'???

@Robert - How about Virgin Preamp, Virgin Vamp, or even Virgin Pre-vamp?

    Vacuum-dehydrating hygroscopic components...

@Stickman393 - So did you re-measure them after your vacuum treatment? Did any change? Experimental data always wins! If nothing changed much, I suspect they are still hermetically sealed. When something is chemi-sorbed you generally need high vacuum** + heat to get any out (for that...

    Vacuum-dehydrating hygroscopic components...

I'm not saying that the experiment can't work, rather that the analysis needs some refinement. Let's assume that somehow the hermetic seals on the devices are somehow compromised, otherwise all is for naught. Then yes, germanium oxide is water soluble. However, for absorbed water to impact...

    Desolders

$200 for a solder sucker is just INSANELY overpriced. Just buy one with a tubular aluminum body, buy it from an electronics place like Mouser of Digikey instead of the cheap crap on Amazon (which suck in a bad way). The one I bought was from Aven Tools, got it at Digikey, it now sells for ~$20...

    MC33178 or ...

Here I'm assuming that the original designer chose the MC33178 for a reason other than having a bunch on hand, as it's a less common but high quality bipolar IC.

    MC33178 or ...

The MC33178 has low noise, and has modest input resistance since it's bipolar. (It's also ultra low distortion, but that's less relevance for guitar pedals.) I think from an electronics sense, the NE5532 is a better match on those attributes.

    Octaking W taper voice pot

Hmm, you could try out a linear of the same resistance, and see how it adjusts. - if you can, try it on a breadboard or not mounted in the enclosure (so you can replace it easier).

    No negative posts allowed?????

Negative posts are also common for very expensive vintage diodes... $5 and up!

Lectric-fx flintlock flanger is killing me.

Did you have the time to check R61? Just curious, check my comments above from yesterday.

Lectric-fx flintlock flanger is killing me.

Is R61 a 270R or a 27R? Looks like the latter, although its tough with photos to get the colors right. Anyway if 27R it may current load the voltage supply, thus pulling down the voltage. Probably good to verify R44, R51 and R61. When I have voltage supply issues, I check the resistors to...

Build documentation on the Flock coming anytime soon?

Honestly, I don't see why they need the build doc - everything is known if the parts are labelled on the PCB, the part numbering is on the Flock Fuzz webpage, + the drill template. And there's no transistors to bias, so it is quite straightforward. If it doesn't exist or appear soon, it might...

‘Double sided’ plastic PCB standoff, does it exist?

A 3D printed custom standoff would be one solution here... Easy to design with even the most basic CAD tool. Together with 2 pieces of double-stick tape, you're set.
