Quick question about soldering residue cleaner

makes sense, thanks. I never used flux on its own before. The friends who taught me how to build stompboxes told me it was toxic and usually not needed. I guess it is needed if i am going to use some residue cleaner.

Quick question about soldering residue cleaner

right, so it's wrong to use it too often ? it should only come into play at the end of the building process ? I thought flux was burnt while soldering, i didn't know it's still there once the soldering is done. And if there are still flux on the soldering pad, i 'd guess there is still some of...

Quick question about soldering residue cleaner

Hello, I've been using some residue cleaner recently, and i notice that pads are much harder to reflow after cleaning the pcb. When applying heat to reflow and improve some soldering joint, i can see bubbles and strange things going on on the pad, it feels like i should remove the cleaned...

    What's on the workbench?

Ayaaah ! Gloire ! Finally, a professional expertise from a famous reverse-engineer about white washers. Cold hard facts indeed. What a brillant and clear official statement ! Bull's eye ! Well played ! Let's hope the white-washerophobics will read these wise words and come to their senses. I...

DEMO Aion's Redshift and Spectron (EHX Small Stone and Lovetone Meatball)

Most of the times, i order full kits from musikding, with drilled enclosures. I am probably paying an extra 10 euros or so in total for such a big build, but I don't have to worry about sourcing the wrong parts, or making mistakes when drilling the enclosure.

Phase II : Low Pass, Vibrato and 2 stages mods

I built a few phasers, the Phase II is probably my favorite, i really like how the sweep sounds. However, i built an other one sometimes ago, a Small Stone clone with all the popular mods, called the Redshift from Aion. The mods are allowing some interesting sounds, and i often regret that...

DEMO Aion's Redshift and Spectron (EHX Small Stone and Lovetone Meatball)

Thanks ! It means a lot coming from such distinguished Enclosure Artists. Unless you really enjoy using a real wah with an expression pedal, i highly recommend the Spectron. In my opinion, it's even better than a real wah. You don't need to care about your foot while playing. You can use the...

SOLVED Switch popping and noise galore with Bootleg and Glory Hole

I had a loud popping noise issue on a circuit once, i couldn't find a way to fix it, even with AMZ tricks, and 20k led resistor. Finally, i've been suggested to add a 10n DC blocking cap at the beginning of the circuit and it fixed it...

DEMO Aion's Redshift and Spectron (EHX Small Stone and Lovetone Meatball)

I built these effects sometime ago, in 2021. Hopefully, they could be some interesting examples about what is possible to do when a pedal builder has "no artwork skills". The idea for the "art design" came to me while i was shopping at the local grocery store. I saw two big packs of rice, one...

Early Builds: Tweaked Executive & Vero Fig Buster

Enclosures shouldn't be microphonic, never. I would start by checking the wiring. Sometimes a tiny piece of wire missed the hole and is shorting the next pad. Also check that the pots terminals aren't touching each other or the enclosure. If touching the aluminium enclosure affects the signal...

    Bass DI pedalboard

It's been observed by some kind and distinguished forum members that there is no need for lots of circuits in highschool jazz bands. That's most certainly true, but surely there are a few doom/stoner metal players hidden among every highschool jazz bands. Probably a secret team of enlighted...

    Bass DI pedalboard

I have read on this forum that a LP/HP filter is very useful to shape the tone and tame the low end. I tried the Frequency Interchange Filter from PPCB, and it does something very different than all the Bass EQ i ever tried, including Tech21 VT bass preamp and its active 3 bands EQ. It's really...

SOLVED LED Dimly Lit In Bypass

I am not sure that i fully understand this sentence. Do you mean that you deserve to be deprived of plastic washers for ever ? But why would you punish these poor and lonely 3PDT, and ruin your enclosures's good looks for something they didn't do ? I think a no-plastic-washer life sentence...

Why doesn’t everyone use 9mm pots?!?

I've read that 9mm pots are less reliable, with a shorter longevity : https://www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=128608.msg1239624#msg1239624 I am absolutely neutral on this matter, and it seems to me that Mark Hammer have better arguments than the pro-9mm forum members.
