Getting the hang of this point-to-point thing

Yea... honestly I spent so much time researching and tweaking the circuit/layout and adding all my little details learning how to do everything it felt like mine. I've been so close to it all I could see were all the changes I made - not the similarities that remained. It was eye opening to take...

Getting the hang of this point-to-point thing

Finished up a few more of my "Mayerland" preamps. Love how these turned out! Probably the last of the year though, gonna build a few fuzzes next and focus on playing a bit more.

Two Rock John Mayer Sig Preamp Pedal

Thank you! That's the target voltage. I can squeeze out ~180 from the SMPS at 9V input or ~240 from a 12V.

Two Rock John Mayer Sig Preamp Pedal

It gets warm but haven't had issue yet. Longest I've had it running so far is about 6 hours? I have a few large-ish holes covered in mesh to allow for some airflow.

Two Rock Mayer Preamp Pedal - Tube not heating

Thank you! I forgot to update this after I was finished. I threw up a build report and included link to some pics and a demo.

Two Rock John Mayer Sig Preamp Pedal

Here is my build report for my P2P Two Rock John Mayer Sig preamp pedal - I'm calling the Mayerland Preamp. I've built two so far, 1 for me and 1 for a customer. I pulled from ~4 different schematics/layouts to get all the values I wanted, and component layout based on the Peace Hill FX unit...

Two Rock Mayer Preamp Pedal - Tube not heating

Sorry for the delayed response. I've done both ways with good results, but into the return of the effects loop is how I primarily use it.

Two Rock Mayer Preamp Pedal - Tube not heating

Good call. I basically used this schematic with some minor value changes. I bubbled the part that I used. *EDIT* no idea what happened - didn't change anything but now it seems to be working?? Maybe there was a short somewhere? We'll see after I button it all up. Thank you so much for all your...

Two Rock Mayer Preamp Pedal - Tube not heating

Gave that a shot - Somehow threw off all my voltages? Not getting any 6V from the pad, pin 1 and 6 only reading about 50V and not responsive to the power supply trimmer. Switched it back to the wrong wiring and all the voltages are back to normal. Maybe pin 9 should connect to 6V and 4 and 5...

Two Rock Mayer Preamp Pedal - Tube not heating

Thanks! I thought it would be an easier/less expensive way to start getting into tube amps.

Two Rock Mayer Preamp Pedal - Tube not heating

Oh yea I know now that it's 100% wrong lol. Yes they're all connected together. The box is a 12V to 250V(ish) power supply - with separate regulated 6V DC output for heater filaments: https://frogpedals.com/index.php/product/frog-smps-high-voltage-power-supply/

Two Rock Mayer Preamp Pedal - Tube not heating

Thanks for the response. I actually have the 6VDC connected to pin 4, in 4 and 5 are jumped, and then a lead from 5 to 9. Do I also need to add a ground connection from pin 9? I just tried to search around for how to connect heater filaments, looks like a confusingly large number of different...

Two Rock Mayer Preamp Pedal - Tube not heating

I just tried my first venture into a tube pedal - saw Peace Hill FX post some amazing stuff and wanting to give it a shot. I found the layout on AmpGarage for the whole amp and just cut out the preamp section of it. The first noticeable issue is that there is no sound - tube isn't heating. I...

Cepheid Chorus - No effect, just bypass sound, LED's working

Small update - I've got it *kind of* working. I found one tiny spot on the trimpot where I can get a chorus effect - but it is pretty distorted. Is there any kind of resistor I can add along the legs to kind of limit this range and make it more sensitive? Or maybe just swap out the trimpot to a...

    Go-to foot switches?

I've been using the love my switches 3PDT latching soft-clicks and love them, but wondering if anyone else has another favorite, maybe from Tayda? I'm about to place another order. Does Tayda offer something similar? I have also been putting together some Tone Geek VS10's which has a flip/flop...

    Dual pot issue

Wow that did it, thank you so much! You have no idea how much this was bothering me. Is there any kind of pinned post somewhere for proper troubleshooting technique?

Cepheid Chorus - No effect, just bypass sound, LED's working

Thanks for the input everyone! I'll check these things out. Writing doesn't chip off with an exact-o, doesn't smear with alcohol either. Seemed like a fairly reputable source 200,000+ reviews, 99.7% positive. If everything else checks out - I've got some other chips coming I can swap in and...
