Frost Drive spluttery, works only when i thouch it on the back of the pcb????

Ok, inspected the socket, it appears ok but I can't see inbetween it and the PCB obviously so I'm not sure if anything is truly wrong. I reflowed the area again, changed out the charge pump chip and gave it a good look over again for the millionth time. It is still the same. I did poke around...

Frost Drive spluttery, works only when i thouch it on the back of the pcb????

Thank you, I'll get to work. I feel like it will be a pain in the ass to remove a socket if it comes to it!

Frost Drive spluttery, works only when i thouch it on the back of the pcb????

Yes, I hate those sockets, I tried them on this batch of PCBs and I regret it! I'll never buy them again, I've had similar problems. I was being a tight ass. I've since bought the good ones but I thought I'd use them up. Will check there is nothing wrong with the socket.

Frost Drive spluttery, works only when i thouch it on the back of the pcb????

Great post, I have re-flowed that area and I replaced a couple of film caps there, but will re-flow again and investigate further. Don't know if the charge pump runs Hot but will check. All it takes is the slightest touch to get it going. Will also try to check for solder bridges at the socket too.

Frost Drive spluttery, works only when i thouch it on the back of the pcb????

I have tried swapping out the charge pump, I think I have more I'll try again, those voltages were way out. Charge pumps from tayda. I'm not with it now but is c7 the mlcc? From memory I put it in for space, it's a 220nf from memory, tested it before it when in and it was exactly to spec. Code...

Frost Drive spluttery, works only when i thouch it on the back of the pcb????

I am troubleshooting this frost drive build and its confusing me. It has sound coming through but its weak and splutery (if thats a word). Then if I touch it with my finger on the back of the pcb in the area that I have pointed to in the photo it works as it should for 30 seconds or so. I think...

    Chauffeur OD squealing

Had to step away from this for a while, doing my head in. Still high pitched whirring noise but also getting some signal through, will audio probe again when i have time. component values checked again and ok. everything has been reflowed. did have it working outside of box but everytime i put...

Phase II low output but works well.

If your still working on this issue I have solved my really low output issues. The lone king I put electrolytic capacitors in the PCB instead of tantalums and I'm pretty sure I put in 22uf instead of 220nf which stifled the output. On the other pedal I put a 470nf instead of the 470pf it was...

Now it doesnt work outside the enclosure. I get a small amount of signal coming through and a whirring in the background like a plane engine is warming up. Assuming thats the charge pump. WTF.

PCB is kinda jammed in against the screw posts of the enclosure, could this distort PCB or effect things?

    Chauffeur OD squealing

I'm pretty sure it's not the switch, it was actually finally 100% working before it went in the enclosure. I don't like how it fits in the enclosure im thinking about drilling a new one and seeing how it goes. Don't like the jack locations or PCB fit

    Chauffeur OD squealing

Yep, as soon as it was in the box, it started squealing again. If the edge of the pcb is touching the inside of the enclosure in any way can that cause this? Spewing too, it worked fine out of the enclosure last night

Ok, thanks. Should hopefully be good to go.

    Chauffeur OD squealing

For anyone who happens to look at this thread, I have replace c4 and have managed to trace the signal all the way through to the end and I believe the effect works. We'll see what happens when I box it up again. On another note, Jwin615, the audio was not on the points on the opamp that you...

    Audio probe help/tips

Thanks for the response guys, much appreciated. I can read schematics and have a basic understanding of what the circuits are doing, but I wouldn't know exactly what to change in a circuit if I wanted to modify the sound if I didnt like it. Thats about my level but I am trying to learn more and...

    Audio probe help/tips

So I have a few pedals to trouble shoot... I'm new to audio probing, but I'm learning. If anyone can give me some tips that would be awesome, any knowledge and experience is welcome. Just wondering, sometimes the signal is weaker on one side of a resistor to another, is that just due to the...

    Chauffeur OD squealing

I got as far as the gain pot with audible signal when audio probing. there was signal on pin 1 of the gain pot and nothing on the other two pins really, had to do it quietly though as everyone is asleep here. From there nothing on c4 etc.

    Chauffeur OD squealing

Hi Andrew, when you say ensure continuity of the gain and volume jacks to ground pin #1, do you mean ensure there is continuity between pin 1 and 3 of volume and gain pots? When audio probing I only really get a strong signal on the left lug of the pot looking at it from the back, or non shaft...

    SOLVED Lone king low output

Yep, tantalums fixed it, pedal sounds great! Can't believe I did that, what an idiot. Thank you all so much for your help, only 2 pedals left to trouble shoot. You guys are great, sorry for wasting your time.
