    Whatchu sittin on? (chair thread)

I'm in a pretty OK office chair from the UW surplus outlet. They had desks at the start of the pandemic when nobody else did. I think this chair was around $50.

Anyone got a starter kit they have used and liked, not music related per se

The Elegoo Uno R3 Super Starter Kit (words variously ordered) is pretty popular, among the similar $40ish kits.

    Stupid Question Time— Modifying Code!

From overhearing CS faculty talk about it: you can use software tools to wind up with what you need in order to code your own paraphrased version of the code. A recent grad with a cybersecurity focus would possibly have learned how to decompile and inspect sneaky code. Maybe trade them a decent...

    LED brightness

Increase it. Because: voltage = current times resistance. Less current means less brightness. Ohm's law (V=IR) is going to be really handy along the journey, worth learning and applying as the times come. But if now isn't such a time, increase the resistance to reduce the brightness, and rock on.

EAGLE USERS...2026 IS HERE. WHAT TO DO?

Same here. I won't claim that the libraries make sense, but I understand them and can easily find what I need, thanks in no small part to the bean.

Third Man x JHS troika delay?

Saw a band (The Wameki) last night where the vocalist just plugged a mic into a guitar delay pedal. It worked fine and they rocked harder and were more punk than Jack White ever did or was. Although, FWIW, I'd build a PPCB that had the same concept, because singers that move around a lot would...

    CH341 testing

It seems like it would work to power it up without anything connected to SCL & SDA. It's probably not dispositive that a computer would recognize it as a USB device, but pretty close. Arduino IDE would make it easy, provided the drivers are installed.

W-w-w-what would you do? (to plop a foot-switchable toggle into an muff)

How do you typically Clean flux from PCB

Cheap toothbrushes have a flat bristle profile. I'm currently using a hotel freebie toothbrush for board cleaning.

Anyone ever clear coat polished aluminum?

I usually do that, for fear of the bare aluminum oxidizing over time. Decals stick fine. I think I used laser printed waterslide decals--it's been a few years since I did my own instead of the Tayda printing.

What Should I Consider in Vocal Pedal Designs?

Maybe the $5 Mic Pre would be enough? Very similar to the above. If it's a dynamic mic for a live setting, it could even be simplified a little more. Powering it cheaply has always been its Achilles heel. I haven't tried it with a DC-DC converter. With 4 batteries it's fine.

    Legit LM308n ?

I got mine from alexer1 as well. I don't see any on Ebay, though it's tricky with the cyrillic characters. There's this listing on Reverb (no affiliation): https://reverb.com/item/48383297-nos-u-r-s-s-140-1408-analog-lm308 Looks like they've become scarce too. Maybe it's time to start...

    Legit LM308n ?

I got some PDIP LM308 from this seller a couple years ago: https://www.ebay.com/str/intergalacticsemiconductor. They were pulls, with mangled legs and a variety of markings. I tested them in a Rat circuit on the breadboard, along with some Motorola metal cans, some УД1408А, a NTE 938, and a...

Very high soldering temperatures and components/boards

Those tips look fine to me, and the solder joints look OK as well. It may be a problem with the station <-> tip connection? FWIW 0.8mm is the thickest I'd use on a PCB. 0.5mm melts and flows a little bit faster, I think. Those are very personal considerations, like soldering temperature itself...

    Jlcpcb and tariffs

US consumers can pay the tariff on delivery, with an added broker's fee to the carrier, or we can pay it in advance, rolled into the shipping charges at origin, without that broker's fee. Neither Tayda, nor Thailand, nor DHL, nor any other rhetorical straw man, is ultimately responsible for...
