2N7000 quality?

I was looking at a build using 2N7000 MOSFETS.

I built the Lemonade Drive and I found the FETs available were dodgy. I end up getting NOS components which worked well.

Is there any issues with the 2N7000’s that are now available?

Thanks for your assistance.

Mosfets are usually less problematic than JFETs.

These days, if you need to use JFETs, better use SMD ones with adapter boards.

I can't say I've ever had a problem with a new 2N7000 or BS170 from any dealer.

I believe through-hole BS170's have been EOL'd so SMD will be the only way to go with those before long.

My concern would just be proper handling, since they're ESD sensitive. The BS170's I've gotten from Tayda and Mouser usually have a foil lining on the paper tape to help with that.

Is there something different about how they're producing JFETs these days? Is it because they're lead-free now?
It's mostly the fact that thrhough hole JFETs are pretty much all obsolete by this point so there's a lot of fakes that are often BJT, ones that are terribly off-spec or legit ones that go for ridiculous prices these days.
