Aion FX 424 Preamp

Had an afternoon to kill and figured I could knock this one out quick enough.

Started with an abandoned enclosure that was already drilled for a 4 knob circuit. Soon, I will discover the bottom 2 holes aren’t in the right spots, so the bass & treble pots are wired off board (remember this for later) also didn’t have a 110k resistor, so just did a 100k & 10k in series.

Got everything where it needed to be, hit the switch…aaaand no sound. Had no idea what could be wrong. I was getting signal when bypassed and really scratching my head. Thanks to @jwin615 in my troubleshooting thread for mentioning dust covers on the pots! I was out, so just went with classic electrical tape and must’ve not used enough, because it was causing a short. Went back through and added a thin layer of cardboard and more electrical tape and it worked!

I’ve played the JHS 424 and the Aion can’t really get the tones. It definitely needs the master volume to make it more usable. But whatever…to the shelf it goes!

Can you lower the 100k resistor on the output to get more volume?
It’s not that it can’t get loud. With the output all the way, it works like a really nice clean boost. The input is where you can get the dirt. But with the JHS gain stage, you can really get different tones from it. Granted, I only played the JHS for roughly 20 minutes, but still. Has a different feel to it.
