An Ibanez TS10 for $760??

I was looking through my local Gumtree and Reverb recently and saw a fella asking Aust$1200 for an original TS10. WTF? That's approx US$760 at the moment. I had an original TS10 when they were new and it was crap. I bought it because the other guys in the band told me I had to (!) and even then I thought it sounded crap. Obviously I wasn't trying to be SRV and didn't really know how I was supposed to use it and it wasn't quite heavy enough to be a good doorstop. The best bit was that I was continually having to put the leads back in because they would pop out at the least provocation.

The whole "Old stuff is better than new stuff" is getting, well, old. In some cases it's true. Old tubes were made better than new tubes. Some old amps were made a LOT better than most (not all) new amps. Some old guitars are really good. But there is plenty of outstanding new stuff, especially where electronics is concerned. And I think we have come a long way from the Tubescreamer. A lot of old stuff is just old. And EVERYTHING is getting too expensive. Especially TS10s it seems.

In addition to SRV, I think for a lot of folks this has probably been driven up in price due to John Mayer using/speaking highly of them…

In Germany i see boatloads of them with hilarious prices from 300 up to 650 Euros, but they don’t sell. While looking i saw the european market only version with the variable mid boost, the ST-9, for mere 370 euros.

I've seen a Bad Monkey for 120€ (I think it dropped to 70€ now) for sale on the biggest Finnish second hand sale site, and also some 400€ Phase 90's and vintage Big Muffs. But nothing this egregious yet.

The 400€ Zonk Machine clone also made me raise my eyebrows, but to be fair it seems to be done period accurately, I think on a turret board, in an accurate enclosure by the most famous old-school fuzz builder in Finland I know (I don't mean they're very famous, but there's like... two "companies" I can name that build clones, plus a couple of DIY-style people I recognize whose work pops up now and then), so maybe it is reasonable to the people who are the market for pedals like that. I'm just definitely not in the market for that sort of stuff.

So you're in Finland? My wife and I are big Kaurismaki fans. We'd love to do a Kaurismaki location tour of Helsinki! Are you a Finnish speaker or Swedish?

Finnish speaker. I also like a bunch of Aki Kaurismäki films!

Maybe a certain someone made a video on it? Haven't checked. That's what happened with the Bad Monkey (which is at least a very good TS variant).

That's a good guess.

Kaurismäki is hilarious in interviews sometimes. "How would you describe your films?" "All my films are shit".
