Any new concerts you're looking forward to (formerly 2023 concerts)

I was hoping to see the Surfrajettes because I missed them last year, but they're skipping Indiana this time :|

My gf and I are going to see Dwight Yoakam next week. I need to look up some more tour dates for people I want to see. She was going to get me tickets to see Hayes Carll, but she didn't (I can't remember why). He's doing an acoustic tour or something right now and I'd rather see him with his band.
Surfrajettes would be an awesome show!

Next month we're seeing the Sex Pistols (sans John Lydon). I can't wait - I don't really mind that Johnny Rotten won't be there because he doesn't sing the songs the same way anymore anyway. Seeing Steve Jones, Glen Matlock and Cookie will be fab. Then much later in the year we're seeing the Pixies. Again! I LOVE the Pixies - one of my favourite bands.

I wish BRMC would visit Australia again. Probably time for Reverend Horton Heat again too.

I saw High On Fire at a festival in 2006ish I wanna say. It was when they had Joe Preston playing bass. They were the loudest band I'd ever seen. I mean it was remarkable how this trio was louder and heavier than the headliners (LOG and Slayer). When they started playing I turned to my friend and was like, "this is like Motorhead, but more metal!" I've only listened to them sporadically over the years, but I'd love to see them again.

Hamish, I wouldn't mind seeing the Six Pistols sans Lydon. I listened to Jonesy's autobiography last year and really enjoyed it. That guitar tone on NMTB is still one of my favorite tones of all time and part of the reason I ended up with a 70s Twin Reverb. My amp has a very different sound though I'm going to chalk up to the speakers and not cranking the volume to ear splitting levels.

I love seeing High on Fire live. I would hate to be the headliner when they open. I saw them open for Converge around 2008ish and High on Fire blew out the sound system. They sounded amazing. The singer for Converge threw a hissy fit on stage after that.

Dwight was great last night. Usually I try to take one decent pic of the band when I see them, but the lighting was hitting the crowd so much that my phone couldn't focus. He played most of his hits like you'd expect, a song or do I didn't recognize and one new song (Bang Bang Boom Boom that he did with Post Malone). For a 68 year old man it was a high energy show. At the end of one song one guy would start the next song while Dwight or his guitarist switched guitars. Their keyboard guy switched from keys to fiddle to pedal steel as the song required. I regret now seeing these guys a long time ago. They ended with Fast As You and after a few minutes came back out to jam out Suspicious Minds. Really really good show.

The Mavericks opened for him and they were amazing. I knew a couple of their songs radio hits from back in the day, but even if they hadn't played those they would have torn the house down. They had a guy on keys, an accordion player along with a trumpet player and a sax player. Lots of tex-mex music. Maybe a 1/3 of the songs were in Spanish. I can't overstate how fucking good these guys were. The accordion player was a guy named Percy Cardona and man he was ripping on that mf. Everybody was just an absolute ripper. I think everyone aside from the drummer and bass player had solos and a lot of the songs turned into longer jams.

I saw Junior Brown last night at Infinity Hall. He played for 2 hours straight. I had never heard of him until a friend invited me to go to the show and it was a great time. We were definitely the youngest people there which is weird cuz we're not young.

This topic (concerts attended) came up somewhere the other day and this is the only thread I could find. Maybe @cdwillis could edit the title so we have a general concerts, shows, gigs attended etc thread

Got the thread title changed.

So far this year I think my girlfriend and I saw the Old 97s again at the start of the year. We've seen them so many times they're blurring together. I got her tickets for her birthday to see Dwight Yoakam with the Mavericks opening.

Dwight Yoakam was great. He's been on my list of acts to see for years and I'm glad we finally saw him. He put on a great show and played pretty much all the classic songs plus a couple covers and a couple new tunes. Told a couple pretty funny stories too, one about Billy Bob Thornton being abducted by aliens lol. The Mavericks I wasn't nearly as familiar with besides a couple of their country radio hits from the 90s. They were fucking great! They're kind of a Tex-Mex party band and really know how to get a crowd going. Their accordion player really stood out. He was getting down like a mf on that thing. I'd like to go see them again sometime.

The girlfriend got us tickets to see Hayes Carll for my birthday in April. It was a great show too. It was just him and a friend (guy that was good, but I'm not familiar with) playing acoustic guitars. More of an "An Evening with" type of thing than a full band. It was a much more intimate theater show.

I'm not sure who else I'll end up seeing this year. Off the top of my heads I'd like to see Sturgill Simpson, the Surfrajettes, Shannon and the Clams, and the Viagra Boys if they make it here this year to support their newest album, which is fuckin awesome. And I'd like to see Primus with the new drummer, John Hoffman.

Seeing Simple Minds with Soft Cell and Modern English tomorrow. That should be a super fun one.
Also have tickets to Weird Al, Adrian Belew & Jerry Harrison, the Steve Miller Band, NIN, and Sparks this year, as well as two local festivals— one of which is gonna have Men At Work, Naked Eyes, and Ambrosia.
Edit: I forgot, I also got front row Stanley Jordan tix for when he plays at my university in the Fall. Got them dirt cheap with my student discount the day before graduation.

Really hoping to get tickets for David Byrne’s recently announced tour. Also hoping to get tix for Neil Young, Primus, Outlaw Festival (Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, Wilco— caught last year where Wilco’s spot was Robert Plant, but I love Wilco and haven’t seen ‘em yet), and Boz Scaggs.

Saw that Mac Demarco is playing in the fall, but prices for Radio City are unsurprisingly very high. The Darkness is also playing in September and I might get last minute tix to that if they’re cheap.

Also gonna try to catch Orchestral Manouvres in the Dark and David Lee Roth this summer if my brother in law can get me in at the venue he works at (usually it’s not a problem for GA shows. I definitely won’t be paying money to see DLR at this point, but I wouldn’t pass up the opportunity for free)

I'm super stoked to see Windhand in August. Was excited to see Samantha Crain later this month, but some travel got in the way. I should buy the tickets to the Damned in August, but I'm still waffling. And I'm gonna see Wet Leg, in order to be a decent spouse but we'll probably have a great time. Also Conan with Mares of Thrace in September.

Stanley jordan havent listened to that guy since like my late teen jazz virtuoso obsession.

Reminds me of one of my favorite concerts. Steve bailey and victor wooten had just came out with bass extremes and my parents to get rid of my for a couple weeks sent me to NGSW (it was like this summer camp for guitar back in the 90’s). Anyways wooten and bailey were guest clinic guys. And they did a show in what was essentially a conference room at redlands university. I was front row, jaw on the floor for 2 straight hours and i didnt even play bass!

Only have 2 shows on the books:
- Dropkick Murphys/Bad Religion in August
- Sex Pistols in September

Clutch is playing local fair in September, but tickets haven't gone on sale yet.

Just snagged tickets to

Entheos
Fallujah
The Zenith Passage
Tracheotomy

I’m most excited about Zenith Passage, followed by Entheos. I did see Entheos once with Conjurer and Rivers of Nihil, so I know that will be good. But Zenith Passage is so technical that it makes me laugh when I hear it, which is a good thing.
