Anybody miss Mammoth Electronics (R.I.P.)

Mammoth changed hands so many times over the years that it got to where I’d only buy their enclosures. The powdercoat and drill options were hands down the best part about dealing with them.

I wish they’d have given notice beyond, “Starting right now we will not be taking more orders, only filling ones already placed.” I heard they screwed over a LOT of builders on their client list when they shut down..

Their employees were not told about it either. It was a pretty terrible situation for everyone.

Edit: This is my understanding, but it might not be the case. I had been working with a rep on an order during the time that it happened, and he indicated that it was a complete surprise to him. There also seemed to be many orders that were being placed right till the posting of the notice.

Yeah I didn't even get my Fallout Cloud kit that my wife purchased for my birthday like a year before. Was told I would get my order but it would be super delayed. Then got the dreaded email saying 'no sir' you wont get it actually. I was super bummed. Finally got a refund and got a Mythos Boost Pedal kit. Every Birthday or Christmas present my wife has got me since 2018 has been pedal related. I lucked out big time.

There was some discussion here on the forum a while back about pedalpcb buying 25x of a few colors and selling here, which I think would be cool. Not sure what happened with that ide

I reached out to small bear about the same thing. They added a few ‘translucent’ colors. Not sure if they get them from PPP or somewhere else. The color names match up, but that could be the names from the powder manufacturer. No idea if that had anything to do with my email, could have been other people’s requests, or just SB’s idea. I’ve bought several of those. They look cool, but the come out kinda spotty.

I also floated the idea to PPP to just pick a few colors to sell one a piece (basically they’d do a run of 25 or whatever and keep them in stock until they sell out). The person who responded said they’d discuss with management.

Back to the point of the thread, I agree mammoth had super cool colors, I had at least one blem (screw hole wasn’t drilled out), but they replaced it right away. I also had a very positive interactions with them about transistor questions. So I was also bummed when they closed.

My answer to the thread's title question is a big FAT NO!! I only placed one order with them and it took over a month to get it and 3/4 of the stuff I ordered wasn't included in my order. I am not surprised that Mammoth went the way of the wooly mammoth. Good riddance!
I wish I had started in this hobby earlier so I could have ordered from them when they were a upstanding company. That way I'd have positive memories of my experience with them.

Definitely some mixed experiences/opinions coming in on this one. Mine was obviously predominantly good dealings up until ab the last year of their existence, sort of similar to a sawtooth waveform…../l
Well I definitely miss mammoth.. If for no other reason they were a business that provided a possible source for that one batch of components you’d been hunting, which nobody else had. And of course they were a resource which supplied the means for us fx circuit obsessives to do our thing..!

-That said I have to admit that I experienced the very same thing @Diynot as well as some serious strange head scratchers!
( I ordered a custom paint/drilled enclosure and received a bare enclosure that hadn’t been drilled and wasn’t even the correct size. Yet I was charged those services 3x! Yet ironically in the package with my bare little box was a work order with my exact request which had been clearly handwritten, checked off & stapled on a receipt..!?! 🤪 Haha..
