Boss DC-2 build: run LM78L06 at 15V?

I'm revisiting a Boss DC-2 build, and have a few questions for any others that may have built them.

• Do run yours at 9V?
• Any overload/distorting when using a humbucker guitar?
• If you are running at a higher voltage (12v or 15V), are you still using the LM78L06 voltage regulator (TO-92 case), or did you swap that for something else?

Years ago, John Fromel suggested using an LM7806 (TO-220 case) for higher voltage, yet putting out that 6V necessary for parts of the circuit that call for it.
Reading the specs on the LM78L06, it's rated as high as 30V max input, so I'm not sure why that couldn't handle a 15V input.
I'm just looking for headroom so it doesn't distort.
