I have been curious about the TA7136P magic in the DS-1 for a bit and @Guardians of the analog recent build pushed me over the edge.

I figured why stop with the TA8136P, and obtained some 1S2473, and 1S1588 diodes too.

My train of thought went to building a SD-1 too. Both the DS-1, and the SD-1 used the two different diodes types at different times. My armchair guess is the early examples used the 1S2473 and later ones the 1S1588.

After auditioning the two diode types I ended up choosing the 1S2473 in the DS-1 (a little rougher), and the 1S1588 in the SD-1 (a little smoother). It’s pretty subtle.

Here’s my current boss family with new middle knobs:

I have a board and enclosure made for the OS-2, and a board coming for the MD-2. Likely my next builds after my amp project is done :)
